One-touch windows... Sometimes :-/

I have an early b7 2.0 tdi (55 plate, the dreaded BLB)...

There's a lot of things that annoy me about it to be honest. Although it does drive well my b5 1.9 TDI was undoubtedly a better car...

One of its idiocies is the "one-touch" windows, which seem to have absolutely no consistency as to when and how they work...

I've tried all sorts of test, from just tapping the switch, holding it for a second, holding it for a few seconds, starting all the way from the bottom, starting from half way... And there is no clear pattern, it simply sometimes does work and sometimes doesn't.

Does anyone else have this issue on their b7?

Probably the switch mechanism is playing up. Replaced mine no problem since.
Better to buy a genuine one though, the cheaper alternatives tend to play up.

Even when the "one-touch" doesn't work the window still moved in the desired direction, so I know the switch is working correctly...

I still think fitting a new genuine switch cluster will sort the problem mate. It's happened on 2 of my Audi a4 cars.

I thought you put the windows down then hold the up button all the way up & for a couple of seconds after the windows had reached the top to set the function, could be talking ****** though, lol

It's the switch. There's another little component in there. My drivers one stopped working (all others worked) so decided to strip the switch and when I put it back together the drivers one worked but the rear left one didn't. Obviously swapped a part over when stripped.

Excuse to pop out for a smoke and check.

That does indeed reset the function, for example when the battery has been disconnected for an extended period... I've tried this though. And the point is sometimes it does work and sometimes it doesn't!?

Anyway, starting to sound like it might be the switch... Will have a poke around when I get the chance!
