Good evening dear people,

Have some MFSW retrofit questions.

I have an older Audi A3 2004 3.2 that has a basic, non function steering wheel.

I want to fit a mfsw.

I took a trip down to local breakers yard and salvaged::

8P0953549K - Steering wheel control module from S3 8p
1K0959653D - Slip Ring from S3 8p

I also recently acquired a MFSW Steering wheel from an Audi S4 which I want to fit.

Particulars of S4 wheel:::
8K0971589A - Airbag wiring loom (doesn't fit my slip ring 1K0959653D )
8K0880201G 6PS - Airbag (shield style)
8K0419091BF YFH - Steering wheel

Wondering, what loom I need to fit this slip ring? Or do I need a different slip ring.

I find it very confusing, anyone know what I need to get my bits working!?

There are a ton of cheap parts on eBay, just need some guidance, if someone has a few mins to help

Thanks!

Is your car manual or DSG?

I’m doing this exact thing….. things to remember, the pre-facelift 8P is a single stage airbag. Don’t attempt to fit a 2 stage, it may not go off when it’s supposed to.

If your cars DSG then it’ll have the steering wheel control module and slip ring already in the car. My car is an Audi A3 3.2 Quattro DSG 04 plate.

I’m using a steering wheel from an Audi A5, it has to have the mode button on the upper left button, you’ll then want to source an Audi A3 8V single stage airbag to fit the steering wheel or one from an Audi Q3 8U.

Then it’s just a simple case of coding it all to work with VCDS using the long code helper.

Yeah that steering wheel won’t work, there isn’t a single stage airbag that’ll fit it unfortunately.

This is the steering wheel I’ve got and airbag, I’ve also included the part numbers.

This is the exact same steering and airbag minus the paddle shift element of it I fitted to my Audi S3 8L. That required the steering wheel module though obviously.

How can you tell the difference between a single stage and 2 stage airbag btw? There are tons of shield style airbags on eBay, but unsure if single or 2 stage. They look the exact same (shield style)

Look at how many of the small yellow connectors connectors go into it (not the large one that goes into the slipring). They usually have green or orange tabs on them

As said above, a two stage airbag has 2 “detonators” where as the one I’ve shown has only 1. Hence it being single stage. To my knowledge there isn’t a shield type airbag that is single stage. I may stand corrected though if someone manages to source one.
