Is a bit strange the 0w30 oil. I always thought it was 5w30 As well.

There are technically 2 filters for the gearbox. One is an internal strainer that involves taking off the sump to change it. The other is an inline filter, this is the one normally changed for a gearbox service, the internal strainer is not standard for an Audi service.

504 is high quality and available as 0W and 5W , tons of detergents and dispersants as it's a LongLife oil and even should contain some group 5 ester as like the top Fuchs , Millers etc , ester racing oils .

Just regularly check if there's a consumption issue as some experience especially with a 0W .

I found that mine used a bit of oil on 5W30 when it was tuned so I went to 5W40 and it hasn't used a drop since the service a couple of thousand miles ago so it does seem a bit strange to have gone for 0W30.

0W30 is thinner at the high temp end than 5W30 !

Expensive machinery , use a 5W40 racing ester marketed oil .

Don't you mean at the low temp (starting) end?

For sure it's thinner at low temps .

But that's why I love oil so much , the misconceptions...

Widening the viscosity range is more difficult to achieve , 0W50 is as wide as it gets.

So to offset this , that particular 0W30 will be thinner at high temp than a 5W30 of the same 504.00 spec , hense why it may get consumed .

My 2011 S4 got Shell 0W30 in it once at a main dealer, but I've always used 5W30 when I service it.

Edit:- that part number you quoted is the current number for the oil filter element - which is just a MANN HU 7029 inside VW Group packaging.

Can confirm dealers put 0W30 in my S4 at the first service. Since then it mostly seems to have been 5W30.

Thanks for that 0w30 must be the spec they use at main dealers I thought it would have been 5w30 but I’ll keep my eye on it and change to 5w30
