My Audi A5 2.0 TFSI is coming up for its second service, which the MMI tells me is an oil change service. However it says that it will then need an inspection 200 odd days later! So what’s the difference and can I request the inspection be done early at the same time as the oil change?

Oil change is exactly that, inspection is the normal service, sometime also need the pollen filter change etc.

Yes, you can pull it forward, I did

Should be around the same time if they set the mmi correctly. How many miles do you do per year?

Just looked at mine:
Oil

Mine seem to vary a lot, I assume it's the flexible service side, I had the oil change, inspection and dust / pollen filter all done at the same time not long back and mine have already drifted.

I'm impressed that I just sent this from 33,000 ft in the air on a plane to Orlando also

Probably, mine is set to fixed....that's why I asked how many miles he does.

In over 2 years I’ve only done 14,000 miles. Can’t see the logic in splitting the servicing, just means more costly visits to a dealer.

Definitely you should be on a fixed service regime, with both the oil change and inspection service rolled into one..

^^^^^THIS^^^^^

Had my 1st oil service after one year and as above, oil and inspection this year.

Thanks for the responses, however, I still don’t understand why the MMI tracks 2 different services events, shouldn’t there just be a ‘service’? Never had a car (VW, Volvo, ) with different servicing cycles before?

Yes, it's just a way of making more money!

I'm on 16,000 miles now from 17 plate new - haven't had my service yet but it popped on around 2000 miles ago.

£450 can wait a few months, absolute joke of a price.

I understand your thinking but how does that work re warranty?

“To ensure your warranty is valid, you simply need to service your Audi according to our recommendations and keep to any mileage limitation set. Standard three-year warranty”

My car is going back as soon as it can be traded in and will be out of warranty in March, I will get it done but it's not causing me any issues currently

Have you tried an specialist rather than main dealership? (depending on your agreement).

Just had

I’ll take the £450 - just had a quote from Huddersfield Audi - £505 for the inspection / oil and pollen filter change + plus a free wash and internal vac.

Assuming it’s a couple of hours work and £100 for the oil (sic) thats £200 per hour for labour - now that’s taking the p!!!

Mine was just serviced today at Stoke Audi. Full inspection service including pollen filter £410. They also gave me an extra litre of oil for future top up. They also replaced the air filter FOC after I said I would buy it separate from the parts department and fit myself. They wanted £19 just to fit it originally!
Good service from Stoke Audi

I'd want a night with a high class one included for that price!!! :p

So just had the oil and inspection done, but noticed that the inspection date on the MMI hadn’t changed! Turns out I still need to bring it in when the car is 3 yo for brake fluid change, so having inspection service early was a waste of time!

We live and learn.

No that is optional, I had my car serviced at two years with both the oil and inspection service and the mmi is correctly set...

Are you saying as it’s optional the inspection service shouldn’t be set for the 3 year anniversary?

No the brake fluid change is an optional recommendation, same as air con servicing....
