Honestly, you take a car to get serviced.
At an Audi dealer or not.
The Audi dealer won't be using wet and slippy Euro parts poo oil, and will all be documented.
If however you decide to cut a few corners, save a few quid and do your own thing, Audi WILL want, and will ask for evidence what oil has been used.
That is how it works.
Fact end

TPS had an offer on the other week.
5l quantum oil on offer
£17
Winning
Which incidentally is neither Castrol or Mobil.
And all hunky dorey when it comes to a warranty claim.
As I said and say again, you need to have reciepts,/proof etc

OF course everywhere will give you receipt ...

GeoffT just read this .. https://www.thecarexpert.co.uk/new-car-warranty-servicing/
NEVER EVER GO TO AUDI ONLY for THAT FREE CHECKUP I WENT 3x
I had free checkup they told me what was wrong and what needed to be changed and gave me nice huge list and at the end of the list was price like £800 and all I had done at locals for £300

Unfortunately always the way with dealers. They know dealer servicing has a value so can charge what they want.

I am also of the belief that they can no longer demand dealer servicing for warranty cover, I do and would probably stick to an Audi specialist though, someone who has access to the online service log.

Tbh, whilst I appreciate the value of dealer maintained if there was a major issue, I actually trust dealers less than good indies to do what they’re meant to do and provide good service.

Apart from when I bought my A3 from Audi Coventry new, I cant say I’ve ever had a positive interaction with any person from Audi.

I’ve seen prices closer to £300 for that service at Audi vs £160 or less from indie.
My warranty the garage just has to be vat registered.

Update. After emails to and fro with the dealer trying to get them to price match I have given up on my Audi dealer and booked in with another Indy who can update the online service record and came in at £180 all in. They also offer a free courtesy car.

During the email conversation regarding the price match the dealer's service agent told me this:

"Good Morning Mr XXXXXX,

Please see T’s&C’s for price match – we need it to be within a 15 mile radius, VAT registered number and part numbers listed all on headed paper so this can be checked"

The specification of part numbers on the quote is definitely NOT in their terms and conditions which only state:

"Oils and lubricants must meet or exceed the manufacturers specification for your vehicle"

So the dealer is making it's own rules up to pretty much guarantee that no-one can take advantage. Which garage is going to give you a service quote listing all the part numbers they are going to use in advance of the work being done?!!!

So Marshall's Exeter, time to name and shame I'm afraid.

Glad you have sorted it all out...Also it's a shame you couldn't get what you were really after and that is getting it serviced at a main dealer....
Let's hope Marshall's are watching this post and other main dealers...It's about time they start matching 'real world' prices and stop ripping us off.

My local Audi is the same. Which indy is going to spent time giving an itemised parts list for you to take to another garage and do them out of work?! The price match criteria is nonsense. Even giving them an Indy's website with prices on isn't enough for them to price match

It's probably Audi UK policy to make the franchises advertise 'Price match' but as franchises want to maximise profit they find their own ways of getting out of price matching.??
Bad business sense if you ask me. I doubt I will ever use main dealers for servicing again...I'm sure I am not the only one.

It pays to shop independently to get your car serviced.
I know mine is an ageing A5 without the online service record mullarky but just for reference, I paid £6O for genuine air, oil, pollen filter sump plug and washer and 5 litres of quantum oil.£30 for oem spec ngk plugs
£80 for service and MOT at local Indy.
£170 all in.
Wonder how much the local stealer would charge for that today?

I think you are right, so I've just emailed Audi UK to complain about it. Either their terms and conditions need updating to say that a quote showing part numbers is required, or the dealers need to be told that they can't make up their own rules to weasel out of price matching.

of course I told u .. these top tech companies lying as they dusting from they mouths ... like scrApple they bribed some court judges to block third party companies in USA. iphone or their crappy macbooks to be repaired by 3rd party companies because they want all monies to them they want stop repairing their products because they are not bothered about them they absolutely don't cherish they own product because once they sell it and have 500x profit they don't giv st. ... about that product they will tell customer buy new one they just don't care about product they just want sales real iphone manufacture product in china cost them £200 or £300 and they selling it for f***g GRAND !
So Audi and other huge companies are the same ... your warranty means nothing .. they will charge you if u try claim warranty and they will make your life very hard.. They will try and wriggle out of any claim, still it's not what we the customer expect or need.
arguesmiley.gif

And they will be accusing you u did something wrong with the car..+

Price match = They can stick it and that's with regards to anything!

I've had work done in and around my home, I ask for their best quote, if I then get a better quote off someone else I go with that better quote! I've even had one guy phone me back and say "I'll lower my quote to better the quote that you are going with", I simply replied with "You should have given me your best quote from the start, too late now you had your chance", then gone with the other quote :)

Interesting in that for price match Audi require a quote from the Indy that itemises the parts and gives part numbers, yet they will not provide you similar information when you pay them to do the work.

A while ago now but Edinburgh Audi did not require an itemised parts list. Just an email quote from any other garage.

Had a call from Audi UK this afternoon. They confirmed that the dealer is correct and they require an itemised quote with part numbers before they will price match. I pointed out how that made it virtually impossible to achieve, unless you had a mate in the trade who was happy to waste their time working out a detailed quote for work they weren't going to get.
On a scale of 0 to 10 she cared about 0.0001 about this.

She said they would get the website T&Cs updated but it might "take a while". I told her they could be open to someone getting Trading Standards etc involved as they are imposing additional terms that aren't in the T&Cs.
On a scale of 0 to 10 she cared about 0.0001 about this.

I told her that this episode had tainted my opinion of both my Audi dealer and Audi UK.
On a scale of 0 to 10 she cared about 0.0001 about this.

They was a theme developing here, so I ended the conversation.

Hi all.
Sorry for hijacking this thread after all this time.
Just got mycar serviced, this time at an Indie as I got fed up with Audi's prices.
However, is this a realistic price at £134? It seems really cheap and I worry a bit the oil and parts used are not top notch, especially when the car it's on the long service interval. I attach a pic I took off the invoice.
Is this Liqui Moli oil any good at that price? I mean, 5 litres of Castrol are almost £100 online...
Maybe I worry for nothing, the boys at the Indie are very good as it's a VAG specialist garage and also have updated the online service history (unlike Audi last year after the cambelt).
Thanks

Price is not very different to what my indi charges for a basic oil service. The quoted LiquiMoly oil meets VW 507 spec, so should be fine. Incidentally, you can buy 5 litres of Castrol Edge longlife online for less than £30 if you shop around.

Castrol isn’t that expensive.

The fancy coffee, courtesy cars and shiny showrooms needs to be paid for.
Most dealership are probably paying £50-100k+ in business rates for the premises whereas your local Indy are probably rates exempt. They also have all the right tools which can be tens of thousands of pounds. Profit per hour labour at dealerships are probably same or maybe even less than your Indy that has little overheads. The showroom/garage has to be maintained to a standard dictated by the manufacturer so periodic redecorating/remodelling etc
It’s just a different way to operate as you won’t go to a dealership and pay £150ph if it looked like a small dirty back street garage.
Mate used to be a manager at a dealership and break even point was around £2500 for a used car and less for a new one. The workshop always had loads of employees, cleaners, receptionist, mechanics etc. They aren’t as profitable as people think even though they charge extortionate rates. One of the biggest money maker for them are things like commission on finance, gap insurance not the car they sell or service.
We all like a bit of dealer bashing as there’s loads of incompetent ones charging a fortune but there are good ones out there that will bend over backwards to sort your problems and even price match to Indy.

What are you saying makes sense until you go to the main dealer for a job thinking that you get what you pay for and then you don't. :(

If you can DIY. Buy all genuine parts and do more yourself and get to know the car too. Oil service is just the oil and filter plus a tick box exercise then extras should they 'find them'

Did 160k in 8 years in my Mercedes. Buyer liked the stack of invoices for consumables and printout of mileage and servicing I carried out.

Doing the same for the Audi. Oil changes be every 4500 miles instead of 9k. Brake fluid flush every year. Pads/discs from dealer but save a shed load on labour. Plus I give it a once over before MOT time so its all good and passes without advisorys

I'm not that good with mechanics and also I'm lacking the proper tools in order to do it myself. Also, I think a full service history weighs more when you're reselling imo.
However, it seems that I can't get the history up anymore on My Audi, is it me being useless or someone else has this problem too? Cheers.

I understand. Decent local independent or council workshop. As long as there's evidence the car has been well maintained, future buyers aren't bothered about main dealer history. I'd say avoid the local Halfords or Kwikfit type places though.
When I have purchased cars in the past, for example the Merc, 1 elderly owner and full dealer history - the air filter was all dirty and so was the cabin filter. I had a tidy Megane Coupe years ago, again one owner but with a stack of servicing works from a MOD workshop they did everything including grease the door hinges
