Just had the oil sensor warning light come on as faulty, 2013 a4 2.0 diesel avant 177, thought I'd check the oil, where the hell is the dipstick???

anyone had this experience before?

Yes. I took the car to an Audi specialist and had it replaced at half the price of the main dealer. No dipstick, you have to purchase one!

i spent 30mins looking for the dipstick!!! wtf?? that's just mad.

what was the cost for replacement?

Brilliant isn't it. Electronic only. I keep reading that folk don't trust it and now I know why!

I don't like the principle at all for a lot of reasons. We were all told for years to measure the oil cold - basic sound engineering principle - find out how much is actually in there. Not anymore. We're measuring it when its traveling and warming up.

I've not gone out and got a dipstick yet. I can't even see where it would go. Apparently there is a tube with a plastic bung clipped in it. I can't see it. Looking at other forums I've seen photos of an engine cover with a curved cut out where dip stick would go. Mine doesn't have that, I'm guessing my dipstick tube is under my engine cover. Can't say I fancy wrenching the engine cover off every time I need to double check the oil. Vorsprung Durch Whatever.

Did a bit of digging and it seems the dipstick tube is shorter than normal and is under the engine cover. Older TDI before 2010 have a hole in the engine cover and a longer dipstick tube so it's easy to buy a compatible stick and leve it fitted permanently. Less than a tenner from the dealer.
Not sure about a solution for newer engines. Seems the best option is an adjustable workshop dipstick for occasional use. Max Minimum are 488 = MAX, 512 = MIN

2013 passat 2.0 tdi has exactly the correct length dipstick to suit the B8. But you cannot leave it in the tube as it gets in the way of the engine cover.

I really must read the part number off it and post it up here.
