oil pick up pipe

Audi just quoted me to replace the pipe is £423.29 I'm having a major sevice so all fluids being changed so thought it was a good time to have done, my service is £421 is that a good price for the pipe and fit?
 
Yes that's the price with if I have it done at the same time as the service help lol
 
I was going to say the part is only £30-40. with major service that seems reasonable
 
The service with an aircon regas is £421 they quoted about three and half hours labour and pipe for £423.29 hope that's clearer

So £420 odd to replace pipe! then the service price jesus christ.... I would say to them why cant you replace the pipe when you do the oil change which is already in the major service surely?!?
 
I did say that to them its extra time sump removed and engine has to be raised to get to the suction pipe. Don't know whether to have done as its more than I thought
 
Its worth having it done to save future expense. Guarantee if you don't, you'll get the dreaded red oil light. Seems to be happening on a regular basis at the moment.
 
Personally I think get the service done if you trying to keep the servicing with Audi which is understandable.

But the price for the pick up etc is too much. I cba to go through previous posts but this has been brought up in the last 2 weeks atleast 5-10 times. Go read through some posts and a lot of people are being quoted £30 for the pipe. And anything from hour and half to 2 hours for labour. So you paying around 120 quid a hour for labour were as you could half the price you going to pay to go to a vag specialist.

Unless if you got the wonga then by all means splash your cash.
 
Yes thanks for all the replies said in some older posts you should change the oil pump as well, and chain God this is getting expensive,surely if Audi must take some of the cost if its a known fault and its been Audi serviced from new

I had full fluids all filters
Pick up pipe discs an pads all round and belts an WP
All for under 800 all gen parts aswell stamped up with a vat registered garage.
 
That's a good price ok maybe just the service and get it done laterjust thought it would be cheaper done together but seams not lol
 
don't let them tell you it needs the box off or engine raising cos it doesn't

Had my pick up pipe changed today at my local indy Star Performance. Here's the price and breakdown.
Long life 3 oil £38
Oil filter £11
Sump washer 67p
Oil pickup pipe £25.36
Washer £3.97
Labour £73.50

Sub total £152.50
Vat £30.50
Total £183

I wouldn't use an Audi dealer for anything on a B7. Even the youngest By is six years old, so use a good indie and save yourself a fortune in labour rates.
 
That's a very good price, went into Audi today and talked to them about this pick up pipe he said to me he can't recall any 2.0tfsi with this fault go. Through the workshop,only the oilpump on some diesels go, I know some pipes have failed but are we panicking over something that may never happen to you?

Well here is a thought you can go with Audi and not have it done. Or go by how ever many forum members there are and ones that have had engines fail in the last 3 weeks and we talking more than a handful due to the pick-up pipe. You decide

And tbh Audi dont know much of it because its out of the warranty period for most of the B7 besides not like anyone here wants to pay Audi prices to have a £30 part fitted
 
I do understand but how many have failed in total a few or hundreds? Be good to get some figures some how can't we start a sticky on this?
 
I would say hundreds at least that have come forward, thou I would assume thousands. In the states it doesnt happen very often because they get the revised part for free :( We dont.

Quoted £293 now from a local garage.

Oil pick up.

2 - 2.5 hours labour inc warranty on the work.

Its booked in for Friday morning, the Mechanic there also said he thought only the 1.8 had that problem (same as what VWAudi Tech thought) and I said no change it, I've read too many problems about it AND my low pressure flashed again 3 times on Tuesday.

I was/are still looking for a recon BUL as I will eventually change engines but its been running fine so if I can get some time out of it for £300 I'll take the gamble.

That is robbery, glad you found a better price elsewhere.

I had to have the sump off mine due to a leak around the sealant, they also dropped the sub-frame, which then meant it needed a wheel alignment. So you might want to check the exact process they are following, and you may need to do a wheel alignment? Maybe someone more knowledgeable can "pipe" in on this. (ba-bam)

Definitely get the wheel alignment done. The subframe has to be lowered part of the way and the engine weight taken with a crane to get room to remove the sump.

When I did mine, the subframe had moved over slightly and put the alignment out
 
Well its been done but it end up costing more than the original quote, this is due to the 2 rear sump bolts being so tight that the allen key socket stripped a bit so no grip could be had.
The flywheel had no recess in it so the gearbox had to come out to get a socket on them.
The Mechanic originally told me that he thought it was only the 1.8t engines that had the pick up issue (an VW/ Audi mechanic also told me the same) but on collection of the car and after giving me the old pick up he also confirmed that the old pick up was DEFINITELY causing a restriction and also once he'd unbolted it and took it out some oil then fell out of the engine. You can also see that its blocked a bit.

So I'm very happy that its done but also annoyed about the rear bolts etc and the fact that one day I will still put another BUL engine back in it.

is yours 2wd or 4wd , i think the some of the price variations is down to what version you have , the 2wd is a much quicker and easier fix, the quattro is a more drawnout affair, but at least its done so another potential failure averted.

2wd.
the mechanic said if it wasn't for the damaged last two bolts the gearbox wouldn't of been touched and maybe 4 + hours less on the bill.

thats a bit of a pain then as the 2wd job is normally from all reports a quick fix as there isn't a subframe blocking access to sump cover as found on the quattro's and all the extra work that adds to the job, i think you were just unlucky to have a few problematic bolts which made a bigger job of things.
