Hi all, I'm after a little help if possible. I have recently noticed a smell of either oil or exhaust fumes in the cabin for short periods of time, having recently had the car serviced I checked the pollen filter to make sure it was seated correctly etc that was fine. Checked everything I could around engine for obvious signs of oil etc all seems to be fine,I did notice a smell of exhaust fumes in the engine bay, concerning me a little. I only seem to notice it when the car is cold on tick over,if anyone can shed any light on this it would be greatly appreciated cheers luke
I'm not too sure can check today, I just assumed the correct one was fitted! It is behind the glove box. I have tried to get it out to check.it but it is extremely tight inside the housing.coukd maybe of been damaged when fitted??? Many thanks
Thanks,I'm pretty sure that's what he fitted, the air filter fitted was also mann,I'll check to see if its seated correctly, its just bizarre how it was fine before the service a d now it isnt. I did initially check for the pollen filter under the bonnet under plastic cover near side.it does seem as though there is a housing for a filter but none present ,I'm not sure if one is needed there? I've read that it could be a cracked or blocked cat or dpf? If it was that later I would expect there to be a light on dash unless it is in early stages? Many thanks a d a y ideas very welcome
Regardless of filter fitted you should not be getting fumes in the car. Wherever you had the car service ask them to check things over. Also the filter is changed from inside the car so even if one was not fitted you should still not be getting fumes in the car.
I'll check what filter is fitted when I get home,I have tried to take it previously but it is very tight and it was starting to tear which gave me concerns as Toni's it the correct one
Funny you mention this but I was also going to ask the same question. I thought there maybe a leak in the exhaust system somewhere but haven't had time to check it. I find it's worse on startup and getting into the car but then again after driving for a bit I maybe just used to it. I've also got the 3.0tdi Sent from my ONEPLUS A6013 using Tapatalk
Yeah I'm pretty sure now that's what it is in mine, one of 2 flexi joints, one manifold down pipe or the other is part of egr system,I spoke to someone today who has seen this a few times. Also some other chats forums have mentioned about cracked cats and dog's but he said that's only really when they are blocked and people don't unblock them correctly and keep using vehicle I'm going to look into it more at the wkend.
Let me know your findings. I'm going to have a look also when I get a chance. Sent from my ONEPLUS A6013 using Tapatalk
Interesting this. There's been a handful of times I've thought I've noticed an oily/fumy smell in the car, but infrequently enough that I put it down to some other vehicle nearby. Maybe it is mine after all ?
After you mentioned it I did a quick Google and it said it's pretty common! Thanks for that This guy did it pretty good but being on lockdown for the next 3 months I might attempt it myself Sent from my ONEPLUS 6T McLaren using Tapatalk
Thank you for posting this and the video. When checking my car yesterday it 100% has the same as the vid with dripping onto exhaust. That will be one I can fix hopefully, but I also have another leak of some sort of leak on top of the engine also seeks to be carbonised which ive been told will be diesel. I'm not sure where that will be coming from but suspect a pipe above allowing it to drip down. Many thanks for the help much appreciated
Again if its carbonised better to check injector leak or manifold leak as its on top of the engine, at least i would have started to look from there first.
Found someone on eBay who's selling the seals, oring's and bolts https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184034543383 I think I could do the job myself but don't have the tools so probably get a mate to do it as he does. After all the lockdown clears hopefully can get it sorted! Sent from my ONEPLUS 6T McLaren using Tapatalk
