My tedious water level and cold air issue is doing my head in. Anyway it dropped again so I topped it up again. I then decided to check the oil, admittedly as I had just started the engine, and it wasnt reading anything on the dipstick. Topped up 1/2 L of oil and it the dipstick read 1/2 way up?

The oil is also quite thick and and dark. Not sure if this is normal. In my golf 1.8t the oil was quite thin.

No obvious oil leaks or sign of oil in water or water in oil etc.

do an oil change then matey if you think the oil doesn't look healthy. Check the back of the engine jut under the rocker cover, my 1.8tbex was leaking oil from the half moon seal on the VVT, the oil was running down the back of the engine onto the gearbox and lower engine covers, you couldn't see it without using a mirror, my car was using way over a litre per 1000 miles and now the seal has been replaced it uses none.

I hate oil leaks so was really happy to get mine sorted.

as above how long has the oil been in there ?
also all audis are known to burn oil off
