Hi Everyone - I just had my RS3 8V PFL in for a service at Audi.

During the "complementary health check" they've spotted a small patch of oil underneath the engine. They have stated this is a leak from the cylinder head gasket and advise that it should be replaced. They are quoting about £2700 for the job.

I wouldn't expect a gasket to go after 45,000 miles on a 5 year old RS3.... unfortunately car is out of warranty and decided not to renew the extended warranty since I've done less than 1000 miles in the last 12 months. It's going to be about £1400 in labour alone for a full engine strip down. To put that in context the exhaust door control unit on my sports exhaust has also gone, and they want £1600 all in for replacing the silencer... Not been a good week.

I'm going to get a second opinion next week, but thought I'd reach out here incase anyone else has had similar issues.

Cheers
S.

Hi there, not heard of this issue before mate on our pfl cars.
If it does need doing I would

1 take it to a audi rs specialist

2 if your handy with a set of spanners order the parts from crewe audi and have a go at it yourself.

Although the work seems expensive from a dealership, we have to remember that they too have Hugh overheads that need paying for. Most parts will never be repaired as they won't guarantee the works so everything is ordered new from Germany and its going to cost you.

Good luck with whatever path you choose.

Have you had a look around that area of the engine yourself ?

I would always recommend an extended warranty - for exactly this reason. That doesn’t help now but Audi’s warranty can be paid on direct debit monthly and would have solved your problem.
