The drain screw on the engine oil filter housing has been rounded off by the garage that last did the service.

Does it actually need to be taken out, or can the housing be removed without removing this screw? (Oil down arm I am expecting is the only downside)

Where can I get hold of a new housing or new screw if I can get the old one out? I have looked on my favourite auction website but all me searches haven't come up with what I am after.

Not sure if some one has a part number? 3.2 Quattro 2005

Cheers

try using plumber pliers/stilsons.
Replacement housing available from Audi

I will be able to get the filter housing undone, it's a 26mm socket job.

It's just the small screw that goes in the bottom of the housing that is rounded.

I believe it's to drain the oil before you take the housing off to replace the filter.

It just drains the filter so when you undo it, it doesn't coat both you and all of the cars parts in oil.

So I'd have him off, brake cleaner the mess, and replace with a new one.

No that small screw off cap exposes a plunger inside, which once pressed drains the oil filter before undoing the main plastic body...
