My oil change is due- car was serviced by Audi when i bought it in October 2016 (used approved- 2014 1.8tfsi) and is on the long life service schedule (every 2 years- whatever it's called!).

I have emailed my local Audi a couple of times a couple of times to get a quote, both without response. A local garage my neighbour recommended (a mercedes specialist) quoted £150 plus vat for oil and filter.

Now as odd as this may seem, I have had 3 mot's done at my local Halfords autocentre and all 3 different cars have passed without issue. I even queried a tyre which I thought had low tread just before one of them and the guy came and had a look and said it was fine as I was't checking the right part of the tyre (you live and learn!) so they seem to be genuine tradesmen who aren't trying to make a fast buck. They've quoted £78 inc labour, oil and filter- can't remember the brand of oil or I can upgrade the oil to Mobil 1 for an extra £20.

Fast fit station are quoting £39.99 for semi synthetic but I'd pay whatever the extra is to go fully synthetic.

Given 6L of Castrol Edge is going to be at least £40, I'm guessing the oil fastfit and halfords are using is going to be cheap stuff? Is that safe to use or should I find an independent who will just charge labour if I provide the oil and filter?

Oh well it's a bit far Haha. I had somewhere in mind up here that was all.

Would you not do it yourself ?

As much as I love learning new skills, I am a layman when it comes to engines/car maintenance and I wouldn't want to risk it with my pride and joy!

Could always give VAG Tech a call see how much they want.

Give unit18.co.uk a call. VAG specialists with full ODIS capabilities to update service records etc. Tanners drive in MK.

Use the best oil you can. Semi synthetic is best avoided.

You say you can't get a quote from your local Audi. Is that MK Audi?
If so, you can just drive in and see someone - they advertise that service. But it will be more expensive that independants. But would be an interesting comparison.

Ive emailed them twice and not had a reply- I keep meaning to call but keep forgetting but as you say, I'd fully expect it to be £100+ if Halfords are just under £80

Mate if you're in Milton Keynes pop down to Indetech in Bletchley. One of lowest prices and they use all genuine parts. The two owners were master techs at Audi before starting their own business. They know their stuff and don't rip you off!

My oil change was under £80 from them.

If you are in MK i would go to APS! I drive up there from Essex. Really, really good! :)

Thanks, have message indetech,

@jimojameso Can't find anything on google for APS?

It's in Northampton.
APS is not actually in Northampton, it's in Brackley, which is further from Northampton than Milton Keynes is.
Just in case anyone got confused.

Also note that the Audi servicing price match only applies to cars older than 3 years (which it looks like does apply to the original post)

Doesn't say that on the webpage I posted, the fixed price servicing is for vehicles over 3 years old. Price matching is price matching.
