is it possible its just some spilt oil that has finally dripped down after it has been serviced before you got it?

That was the first thing I thought and I did say that to Audi when I rang them, but after digging a little deeper the oil change was done on the 12th of this month. Since then it’s been test drove & then drove to a petrol station by the salesman so you would of thought the cars had plenty of time to get warm and then let anything spilt drip off?

Would it drip under the car? i would have thought the engine tray/under engine trim would catch it?

My thoughts again, you wouldn’t believe I’m actually a qualified motor tec, car is still at work with the mrs so haven’t looked yet. The only car that had been parked there any of yesterday & through the night is the new A3 so it’s got to of come from that. It’s quite a size the stain as well

Bearing in mind that the car is new and direct from the showroom, could it be tire trim spray or alloy wheel-spray, back to black spray, that kind of thing? Also, guessing thats at the area that the front of the car was parked? I use a tire restorer spray and when it rains it washes off the residue, makes a similar type of mess.

Hi mate, yeah your right that was the front end of the car. Just to be clear, it’s not brand new it’s just new to me. It’s a 2018 18 plate. The car was valeted on the 13th & then parked outside, it was outside when I collected it last night as well & it was lashing it down. So you would of thought anything that could run off the car would of already done so. If you look at the picture the main spillage seems to be pretty much bang in the middle of the car as well or maybe very slightly to the right hand side which is making me think engine bay related.

Yeah really looks like drips in one spot. prob quite big ones as the circular area from the drips are quite big and go forward. I'd say back to old methods and put cardboard under the car to see what it is. Was the engine bay cleaned?

Not sure if it was cleaned or not, Audi have said take it straight back to them. I’m passing there dealership on the way to the airport in the morning so that’s my plan up to now, they’ve offered to pay for taxis to & from the airport from the dealership which is nice. It’s just an inconvenience that you don’t want when travelling abroad

As long as no warning pop up telling you to stop! Tell your wife to check the oil level before driving off.

So the wife has just come back & I’ve checked the oil. It’s not much above the minimum line which I was surprised at considering it was only serviced 2 days ago.

Audi serviced mine yesterday and put some new brake pads on, drove the car home with it sounding like it had a cheap air filter on and sounding like a bag of rattling spanners, phoned the dealer whilst on the M621 Leeds to be told to phone Audi assist.

The fella turned up this morning, asked what the issue was to which I told him it sounds like there’s no air box attached, popped the bonnet and there was the air box flapping about, they’d not even made an attempt at fixing it back to the engine / intake.

Nothing surprises me with main dealers, we don’t have proper mechanics anymore, just poorly trained monkeys that unbolt / bolt on parts and read error codes via a hand held device.

I found a spanner under the bonnet on one of my previous cars after being at a main dealer.
    Wasn’t Audi though, that’s shocking.

    Absolute chancers aren’t they.

It’s got to go back to a dealer for the top mounts replacing as it knocks.

Its an 18 plate car with 35K on, I wonder if it will come back with any other ‘faults’ after they’ve been replaced.

The Audi assist bloke couldn’t believe they gave it back to me like that, then again he’s gotta look concerned hasn’t he.

Problem we’ve got & I know this first hand from my time at VW is all the techs are working on a bonus basis & they are chucking jobs out the door as fast as possible.
If they are on a 9-5 and get two 3.5 hour jobs that’s pretty much there day done, but If they bang them out and do two 3.5 hour jobs and let’s say a 2 hour job in there day that’s an hours worth of bonus they’ve earned. My friend works at BMW and he told me last week he needs to earn at least 36 hours overtime to be comfortable.

That’s all well and good until they leave the air box off my car and I end up sucking a ***** load of water into the engine in the ******* down rain travelling up the M62, in rush hour and when it’s dark.

Thankfully this didn’t happen and the engine is fine but still, who’d be paying the bill for a new engine.. that could have been an interesting conversation between the me and the Audi dealer.

Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t think you were.

It’s just the times we live in isn’t it, I sound like I’m a moaning old fart (I’m 33) but times have changed in the motoring world just since I passed my test in 2004.

Its fine I knew what you meant, I’m 25. Qualified as a motor tech when I was 18. Did 3 year then got out of it, it’s a rubbish job these days. The wage is **** & like I said you’ve got to bang jobs out as quick as you can to earn a wage which leads to major foul ups.

I remember when working at Vw one of the techs got his apprentice to do a disk pad & fluid change while he worked on another car. This meant he was getting two jobs signed off for the price of one. Half way through the apprentice realised he had just filled the coolant up with brake fluid. It certainly wasn’t the apprentices fault, he should of been observed. Let just say he didn’t get his two jobs signed off that evening, just a long shift working back fixing the error.

If major brands actually cared, they would do away with the bonus scheme and give the lads a decent wage. They then wouldn’t have to rush cars through the system

Interesting reading all these stories, this thread should defo be made into a complaints thread and then shown to Audi UK in order to improve their service. Also, we must remember that Audi, in a way, doesn't really exist in the UK, the dealers are all franchises. From my point of view, I had 2 experiences with Audi in the UK, both terrible. Audi Leicester & Taunton. Leicester tried to wrongly tell me my car had been in an accident and wouldn't repair a seatbelt, Taunton just ripped me off on price, quoting me even more than Audi set servicing price. Both times I complained to Audi UK and then I got a nice email back from each garage apologising. I might be wrong, but it seems that Audi UK is the official Audi representative in the UK and the dealers are franchises below them?

You'd think they'd just replace it, even if they didn't have one in stock you'd think they'd take one of a car they have in stock, order a new for the car they've taken the dip stick from for your car.

It's not hard to solve that little issue is it.. chimps can be trained better than some folks in dealerships.

    It’s not just Audi though.

Before My Audi days, I remember having my alternator replaced years ago - looked under the bonnet when home and saw 2 bolts sitting on top of the expansion tank.

Without a doubt it’s not just Audi, I previously had two Mercedes one after the other & had problems with both. First was a manual C class & the gearbox + clutch went but that wasn’t the dealers fault. Second was a 2014 E class, it went in for a service & came back with a coolant leak. Went it for the coolant leak to be fixed and came back with a battery fault due to not been connected properly.

That's shocking mate, they charge a premium and say "Let the Audi trained technicians take care of your Audi to keep it in the best condition." and you get that!!! Have you phoned them back and told them what it was?

I'd be sending an email saying what had happened to:

    Managing Director of Audi UK
    Andrew Doyle
    andrew.doyle@audi.co.uk
also copy your email to - executive.office@audi.co.uk

Fully agree, if something break/goes faulty they just replace a complete part, they are just trained to take parts off and put new ones on without understanding how they work. I was at the Indy a couple of weeks back, a guy in there had a problem with his turbo, the main dealers wanted over £1,000 to fix/replace it! The Indy stripped it down, found the broken part and replaced it...all done for under £200!

I’ve not phoned them back since Audi assist came out but I will be going back into the dealership Tuesday next week as it’s booked in for some top suspension mounts (knocking after 35K ).

I’ll be taking the Audi assist report with me and speaking with their service manager.

I use a good independent on my wife’s BMW and they are great, not that anything has ever gone wrong with it but they always use genuine parts (at my request granted) and complete the work properly and it’s always ready when they say it’s going to be ready.

Is the problem that Audi use "technicians" and the local independent uses "mechanics". If you use your google you will note they are not the same thing.

Unfortunately I didn’t have time to drop the car off before I went on holiday, Newcastle Audi did offer taxis etc but i really couldn’t be bothered with the chew. Especially when I’ve literally just walked through the door.

Plan of action is to check the oil again in the morning then have a ride to Newcastle with the car, I’ve told them I’d hang around for an hour while they get a tech to take a quick look. Used car sales manager has said If they find any problems
That isn’t a quick fix I can take a car from the forecourt. At least they are making an effort.

I said that to the wife The guy who sold us the car & the sales manager seem pretty good & really want the issue sorting without any problems so I do actually think I could swing something nice for the day. R8 probably not but something with an S badge would be nice

That could be a good gesture from them, more than what I got.. absolutely f-all, just a half ***** ‘sorry, not sure what happened’ and a coffee from the machine.

I could of started kicking off more but the car is now fixed and the mounts have also been done, I just can’t be ***** with the drama.

I think I’ll be trying another dealer next time, either Harrogate or Bradford (actually Harrogate it will be).

I'm not sure where you are based but if looking at Harrogate then is a dealer just below The Lake District in reach?
For many years my sister, her husband and daughter have traveled from near Southport up to the Lake District to have there Audis serviced.
She's owned 1 A3 and 2 x S3's for about 12 years, her husband racked up about 300K on his A3 prior to swapping to an A4 Allroad? and her daughter runs an A1. The service they have experienced has been faultless.

So that was a complete waste of time. They got one of the techs to walk out to the car with me, he said he would pull it into the workshop and have a quick look. Within 5 minutes he had come back & said he couldn’t find any leaks, there’s no chance he could of removed the bash plate to of taken a proper look. Obviously a quick look with a light.
