Came home yesterday to find my 3 month old car covered in brick dust from where builders had been cutting up paving blocks for the next door neighbors drive. After calming down a bit & speaking to the neighbor I gave it a gentle hose down, then snow foamed it followed by a 2bm wash. Paintwork looks OK fortunately.

    Anything else I should do?

If its just dust mate you should be okay. If the paint doesn't feel as smooth as it did before try giving it a light polish or using a clay bar. But I think that might be overkill as its just dust. You did the best thing which is giving it a rinse > snowfoam > wash.

+1 for above. When are these cutting machines actually going to have a mechanism to collect their own dust? Must be some way or is that simply too expensive??

I had similar the other week - next door neighbour had his drive power washed and the spray had kicked up - my newly washed car was covered in filthy spray dust and dirt. Again quick wash off and snow foam did the trick, but one has to wonder why the heck they couldn't just knock on the door or give me a nudge the night before that they were having work done.

Thanks guys. I agree Hawkeye, I think the thing that most annoyed me was the thoughtlessness of it.

Unless your neighbour is also a car person it's unlikely to even occur to them, most people's reaction is "it's only a car"

    Really winds me up

All disc cutters (petrol ones) have both a Hoover hose outlet and a water pipe attachment for dust suppression, just a shame most can't be ***** to use it.

Personally, I wrap my car in bubble wrap and cling film and then never drive it in case it gets dirty...

Christ on a bike, anyone would think we were discussing priceless Ferraris, not mass produced, rapidly depreciating (no matter how many times you polish it) VWs in posh frocks!

Mass produced, yes, rapidly depreciating, unfortunately yes, but for a lot of people these cars take up a fair chunk of their disposable income, so deserve to be looked after!
Also, although mine may be a basic spec, I pride myself in being able to say I'm only 21 with a good quality car, that performs well and also looks nice - there's nothing wrong with trying to make it look as nice as possible, for my own benefit if for nobody else's! 'This is why you can't have nice things' etc..
Appreciate you don't feel the same, but many do.. Check out the detailing section for many people on 'my side' ;)

Mine's company! But wanted an A3 for years (just love the design/German quality interior), and when I got this job, I had cheaper options (Polo, Fabia etc.) and just thought sod it, I'll spend my money on something I want instead of spending it on Her Indoors for a change! ;)

I look after it as if it's my own, as I'm the only one using it, but it comes with the added benefit of a £60 p/month price tag! :footy::yahoo:

Doesn't matter if something cost £1 or £100,000 people should treat other people's property with respect, just because you don't value something it doesn't mean the owner feels that way about.

My car may not be a Ferrari but it cost what I consider to be a lot of money which I worked hard for.

I very much doubt your paintwork will be damaged. Until recently my office was next to an aggregate plant, so the car was always getting that kind of dust on it. Nothing a decent wash can't deal with.

Seems like someone has a huge chip on their shoulder. If you don't take care of your car that's up to you, the largest majority on here like to do so. Jog on.

I agree but are you going to go to the nest of every bird that does it's business on your car or the council because there is salt on it after the gritter has been out.If the cars stayed clean then we wouldn't have the pleasure of cleaning them.

Not really as that's something that can't be prevented, whereas in this instance it was something that could so easily have been prevented if the guy's using the cutting machine had even half a brain between them or any respect for other people's property.

Sorry mate but you are out of order, half a brain really!!! Tell that to there faces....lol, they were cutting stone in the street for god sake. Maybe they should have taken wind readings and posted a nice letter through your letter box asking you to move your car to a "safer" spot.

Maybe you should look at some of the words you are using in your posts on here !!!!!

Actually they were cutting the blocks in the drive 10ft from my car without any safety gear except ear defenders, so you tell me who has any brains. And I did politely speak to them asking them them to give me a warning when they were cutting again only to be told I was an idiot.
