well went out in the car tonight, driving along, hit a pot hole, then there was a banging / knocking and a burning rubber smell coming from the engine bay! quickly knocked the car off and got it recovered by the aa to my prents house a few miles away, me and my dad then had a look at the damage, we removed the air box intake and engine cover to get a closer look, we found the alternator belt lying loose at the front of the engine so pulled that out, then had a look at it, am assuming that the belt should be around 20mm wide but it was closer to 15mm wide!! so while having a look for the rest of it we noticed some broken pices of plastic lying at the bottom ontop of the bumper, then i seen the rest of the alternator belt but it was shredded to bits and sticking out of the timing belt cover!!! and i couldnt pull it out!! to me this isnt looking good!! yhe car is a 2.5v6 tdi 163bhp. any ideas what might have gone wrong? what are these engines like if the timing belt has skipped a tooth??? cheers for any info! the garage that replaced the timing belt at 81k will be getting a call tomorrow as the car only has 84k on it now!! i dont think i will buy another audi off a vauxhall dalership and let them do the cam belt again!!!!!!!!!:sos:

They wanted to have a look at it but when i managed to tow it there the service desk had closed so i left the keys and am ringing up today to see what they think!

Well last night the garage rang me for permission to strip the front end of the car off so they can see what has caused such a mess, but she warned me that if its not their fault i will be charged £160 for labour! I think a quick call to a solicitor and trading standard's will be in order if that happens!

hmmmmm, pre cam belt change= no trauma, post cam belt change= trauma.........yeah, id keep your wallet firmly in your pocket mate!!

I wouldn't be as bothered if it was just a little garage with 10 or 20 cars for sale as i could see there point in trying to get out of paying for it because its not a small job. But the garage is evans halshaw who are the uk's largest garage chain with 1000's of cars so you would have thought that keeping customers happy would be their main priority. Anyway they might turn round and fix it yet. Am awaiting a phone call. Fingers crossed its good news

rang the garage around 5ish and hey said they will be making a start on it on monday, i have got fingers and toes crossed that they accept responsibilty!!

well the car is in a differnt evans halshaw delership than where i bought it, after speaking to evans halshaw head office they said that it would be fine to take the car to any of thier garages to get the car looked at and fixed, so the renault garage where the car is now rang me today and said that the problem is down to how the car was put back together after the cambelt change and that the vauxhall dealership where i bought the car is liaible, then after a call to the vauxhall garage they have now decided tht they want to see the car that is now in bits at the other side of the north east, after explaining that it is impossible to get the car to them unless i pay the renault garage £200 for labour to strip / rebuild the front end of the car we came to a standstill. so i told them that i was going to call the renault garage and tell them to stop work on the car untill i get some dvice from trading standards and a solicitor. i havent called renault yet but i will be there first thing in the morning trying to come up with a compramise between the 2 garages and try and get something sorted, the car needs a new timing belt kit aswell as a new timing belt cover and fan belt. then i will need pressure tested to check the condition of the heads as they are unsure of the condition of the valves. i will keep yous posted on tomorrows events!!

It's good that the Renault garage said that it's the Vauxhall garages fault. Fingers crossed that it gets sorted for you today :whip:

ok i am awaiting a phone call off the regional manager of evans halshaw, see if he can sort this out as this moring didnt come to anything :motz:

well the regional director of evans halshaw must have sorted something out, after 2 hours of leaving a message for him the garages came to a agreement and recovered the car to the place where i bought it, they are going to do all work free of charge too, it better be right this time!! lol

well that is good news boya, without antagonizing them i would be taking it to audi for the once over after they have repaired it, at their cost of course. i would also be looking at a free service or something along those lines as goodwill gesture for having messed you around arguing about a fault that was caused by their 'techs'! don't just accept the fact that they are repairing it FOC as an acceptable conclusion to this mess!

the fault is getting fixed under my warrenty as apparently the fan belt tensioner had sized causing the belt to come off, they said that it is the customers decision if they would like a new fan belt - tensioners on when doing the cam belt but as i hadnt signed for the car i was never given that option, to be honest the quicker i get the car back off them the better, dont really want them to do anything with it after what they done last time, its booked in to a audi specialist near me in a weeks time for a service and a good check over what they have done, am not bothered about gettin anything for free, i just want it back.

great news mate, yeah im with you on getting ur car back asap, and then booking it with audi, mine has just come out of teesside audi for the cambelt ,waterpump tensioners etc, all in for £400, with a 2yr warranty, which evanshalshaw dealership was it in the north east

Thats good news, see there are decent people out there that do not need to be threatened with legal action to begrudginly(sp) help you

:respekt: to the garages/Evens Halshaw

its a pity the evanshalshaw at stockton isnt as helpful, but then again once the sale goes through..... chocolate fireguard.... enuff said. :banghead:

Just thought i would do a quick update as i haven't been on this thread for ages. I finailly got the car back only for the coolant hose to come off from the top of the rad. Never mind flushed it all out and put some new g12 in it so its all good. Car is booked back into the dealership where i got it from now for a new rear anti roll bar a new air flow meter and a bottom suspension arm. Am so pleased i took this warrenty out ha ha.

Pay that little extra and go for the RS4 rear ARB...You'll love it.Makes a hell of a difference to that cornering!!!
