Yeah i get that the potential market is smaller with mods but I think these cars are popular in the modded world.
 
People may well be wary of buying a modified car.

I'm no expert but the price seems high for a 5 year old car.

Have you tried approaching sellers who specialise in buying cars like this?

Again speaking for myself I would buy an un-modded car and do/get the work done myself as you know the history .

Have you thought of removing the mods and replace with stock and then selling the mods separately?

I bought a 2011 Mégane 250 November 2017. Paid 11,250 from a dealer.

Spent £7000 on it (hybrid turbo, injectors, ITC induction kit, full scorpion exhaust system with decat, airtec intercooler, lowered, new rear cup shocks, new brake lines, pads and discs all round, new wheels which cost about £1600.
Had brand new Michelin pilot sport4s all round and only got £7000 for it after 12 months of owning.
Took ages to sell. Had it up at £9000 at first but no one was interested. Sold it to Arnold Clark in the end.

Just by looking at the pics I’d remove the snow foam photo. It’s obvious you clean the car lol you don’t need to prove it.
When I sold my a3, I had more views/enquires when I changed the photos to ones without my private plate and the original exhaust back on. A lot of people’s s3’s on here have been sold by specialist garages that have paid a fair amount. Search some threads for the contact names/websites. It’s probably safer that way too.

I'm not prepared to return it to stock, lots involved to get to stage 2, fmic, downpipe ect. It will sell i'm sure, im just surprised it's not gone already. I've had several offers but was holding out for maybe an unachievable price. I think its a lot of car for 18.5k, that's golf r money.
 
Can only echo what others have said. It’s obvious it has been you’re pride and joy and looked after but such an amount of mods really limits your audience and would give me concern that it will have issues and no support from Audi if anything major does go wrong.

Looking at AT there are 2 2014 cars under the £18k mark with better & more desirable spec Inc pan roof/ss seats/LED headlights and less miles.

How much lower have the offers come in?

Also I think being a manual is a more limited market. Most (not all) people want the DSG.

I think you must be looking at sportpacks and not saloons, saloons are more expensive. Also regards help from Audi, the car is well out of warranty so the only help you're going to get is the help your willing to pay for and Audi would be only too happy to take your money.

100% on the manual thing. If it was stronic I could of sold it 10 times over for more than I'm asking. Personaly I love the connection with the car through changing grears.

Shame your car hasn't sold yet, as it looks stunning. Those wheel look gorgeous.

For me it might be simply 2 reasons.
1) Mods. Narrow market of people looking for a modded car. Either will put people off, or anyone looking to mod, may want to start from scratch and do it themselves.

2) £18,750 is still a load of cash. At that asking price, many people will be looking for finance through a dealer. Yes, they can do it separately themselves, but most people are lazy, and get if from the dealer. Plus they'll get a piece of mind 12 month warranty.

I'm still trying to decide whether or not to sell mine. Last 2 cars I sold, I had dealers phoning up wanting them for stock. I took a slight hit on advertised price, but it was worth it for a quick sale and to not have test drivers showing up.

So my only advise it put the car back to stock, and see from there. I don't think you should drop the price anymore, as it's worth what you're advertising all day long.

Another reason might be, due to PCP, people can get into a brand new S3 for the same monthly outlay as a HP deal on your S3.

And that sadly is the truth of todays motoring world. People would rather the car did most of the work.

I was just about the same. When I had a look at the pictures, the manual gearstick put me off straight away. Nowadays most people in normal cars don’t want a manual in a family car, let alone a S3. Unfortunately you are going to have to drop the price as there is a limited market for the manual.

Audi wouldn't diagnose mine cos it was mapped. Told me I had to put it back to standard.
This is the same Audi though that claim I've been wearing lotion and it's ruined my driver's seat though.

I think for your average buyer the mods put people off as it means you are unable to purchase extended warranty from most companies, and the fact that most people see a modded car and assume it's been ragged. Whereas in reality a car that has been modded is more likely to have been taken care of, especially a car like an S3.
 
Your car looks lovely but I would say the manual gearbox is the issue, plus if it were me I'd rather buy standard and mod the car myself. Good luck buddy!

That depends really. Just look at my car. 2015 S3 and out of warranty. Engine went pop. Audi obviously looked very closely to see if the car had been modded in any way. It came back as No. Audi replaced the engine.

So there are disadvantages of buying a modded car, when something like this can happen. But what happened to me will be a very rare occurrence.

I think you need to be prepared for a long haul if you won't budge much on price. There will be a buyer for that car, but it will probably be 'a buyer', singular. I know WBAC will lowball you, but is there a midway point between the Autotrader private sale price and the WBAC price that you can lower the car to?

Several years ago I had a low mileage '55 plate V8 S4 Avant with FSH that I spent 12 months and £200 trying to sell, in the end I PX'd it. Had a custom Harley (bored out, cams, pipes, flowed heads, suspension, paint etc), cost me thousands. The book value did not reflect what it was worth to me.

For the majority, cars are commodities and nearly £19,000 is more money than most people are willing/able to spend on a depreciating asset. The mods will (sadly) make the car depreciate faster to the mainstream.

Try to think of this as a 'passion project', you've done it, it was cool, time to try something else.

You never make your money back on mods and it narrows the market for the car. Better to have the mods removed and then sell them off separately.

If you are 100% not going to take the mods off then Autotrader is not the right place to sell. You would be better selling on enthusiast forums like this one and on Pistonheads. Your audience will be narrower but there's no point trying to sell to those who will never buy a modded car anyway. Wouldn't bother with ebay either.

Other than that, and this ia a very small thing but makes an impact - I'd recommend putting a standard numberplate on the car with normal spacing. The car is fairly tastefully modified but numberplates are extremely subjective and when I see your advert I'm on board with the mods until I see the plate. Rightly or wrongly the first thing that pops into my head is "innit bruv?" I'm interested in buying a car from a mature and sympathetic enthusiast but not from one of these wannabe-youtube types. The numberplate is the first thing that brings a potential negative into my head and that may be enough for some buyers to move on to the next ad.

Some thoughts from me but echo a lot of what folk have said above.

  • It’s still a fair chunk of change for private sale.
  • I’m not sure a picture with a skip in it is the best cover picture.
  • Some of the pics seem repetitive and don’t like the ones in the driveway. I’d go somewhere remote and take very systematic pics from the usual angles.
  • Also, I use the auto trader app and don’t know if it’s a formatting thing or there is a character limit. See screenshot. It’s like one long sentence with poor punctuation.
  • Even putting on standard exhaust tips would also alienate less people.
  • And agree with lots of the above. Blank the plate or put a dated one again.

Which they sorted outside the warranty for a price that I imagine would have been a lot higher than the £1775 they quoted me to fix my seat that they refused to sort because that was outside the warranty.
