Just picked my car up after a service, they changed the multitronic gearbox oil as well. Driving home everything was sweet as a nut until about 15 miles, all of a sudden the gear box starts jerking, revs are erratic and it doesn't respond properly when in manual mode. Nursed it back to the garage who hooked it up to VCDS and it's showing 17101 input speed sensor fault which apparently relates to a G182 sensor? They phoned up TPS who said its a common failure and costs nearly £800. I've asked the garage to check the oil level and the wiring to this sensor. I've found these guys in Bristol AUDI A4 A6 A8 CVT MULTITRONIC ECU AUTO GEARBOX TRANSMISSION CONTROL UNIT repair | eBay thinking of getting them to look at it.

could low gearbox oil cause this issue? I'm hoping its coincidence it's gone tits up straight after a service, I know these CVT boxes are a time bomb. No way I'm shelling out £1k on a possible fix, don't mind getting the gearbox ECU refurbished for. £150 though.

proper gutted, was about to book our family holiday but will have to hold out now. She looked so nice after service as well.

Nightmare indeed mate, will the garage do some further checks for you next week or something else?
In my last car, E60 535d, the torque converter failed and set me back £1,400 in one go, not ideal.
I hope you get a solution dude

I will probably end up trailering it to that chap in Bristol, I won't spent £1k fixing it, I'd probably cut my losses and get something new. Looking through the receipts for my car (it's done 86k) it has had a new gearbox and two gearbox ECU's lol. It's a minter and would hate to have to get rid.

So I've got the car home, the garage checked oil level and connections with no improvement. I spoke the specialist in Bristol and explained my symptoms, he said it sounds like the gearbox ECU, so my next plan is to get it down to him next week for him to hopefully fix the issue. He said it's 3 hours work and £250 so if this is all it costs in the end I will be very very happy.
