Hi all
Got myself a genuine VCDS Hex-USB-Can lead from Nigel (NHN) and I'm trying to do a couple of tasks
1: Remove the sat Nav dvd
2: Activate alarm beep

firstly I've downloaded the correct software from Ross Tech. Tested the lead whilst hooked up to the car and performed a full scan, all done ok 😀

The problem I have is when I try to access the Navigation module (37h and the central locking module (35) to change the settings VCDS displays "No response from controller"
The same message is displayed when I try and access some of the other modules I've selected at random?

Am I doing something wrong chaps?
I'm a novice user so please be gentle with me lol, but would like to learn how to use this lead to access all areas of my car and learn how to use it.

Thanks in advance
David

Hi David, maybe the link below will be useful for you to browse through. :) x

Ross-Tech: FAQ

Do you have your ignition turned on? Very common mistake and will give the error you are describing.

You don't have all the modules that are showing. Can you access the engine ? . I am sure Nigel will sort you out.

Karl.

I'm sure there is an easy fix for it Karl
It's a learning curve I've just started on.

You don't have all the modules that are listed on vcds. You get the error listed if the modules not there on your car.

I Carnt remember exactly been a while since I've had vcds on but I'm sure there's a couple of differnt buttons for the radio so worth trying a few buttons

Same with the beep when I switched mine on the setting is In the convenience module number 46

Been having another go this afternoon and your right, I can't access all the modules, I presume this is the reason for the message "No response from controller" is flagging up?
I can access module 46 but I haven't a clue on what to do next???
I do appologise in advance for asking what maybe the obvious but I'm new to this but am keen to learn.
Can anyone advise me what to do next to activate the single alarm beep when arming the car?
Then my next task is to remove the sat nav dvd, can anyone help here please?
I don't suppose there is a link on here for newbie's like myself where changes are explained which a 4 year old would understand is there? lol

David,

The scan results (if you saved them) will list the modules that are fitted to your car, or alternatively, run an Autoscan and click on the module in the report to access it directly.

Hi Steve
I've got to that stage now and I can access module 46, which I believe is where I need to be, as a newbie I just don't know what to do next?
Had I known it was going to be this difficult I probably wouldn't have bought the lead.

David,

Don't give up, there's plenty help available on here
Can you give us some details on your car and perhaps post an extract of the scan for module 46?

There'a lots of information on the Ross-Tech website, here's one section on Long Coding which is what you'll need to use to make the changes:
Ross-Tech: VCDS Tour: Recode

If you post up the scan it will give us something to work on.

Steve

Post up a log of the car.

Ok, here's a current up to date scan of my car done this morning.

I don't see navigation 37 or radio 56, that maybe your issue, are you sure its factory fitted rns-e?

You may need to go into instruments 17, then adaptations, drop down the box & select Infotainment Bus at bottom, then what's the code set too now.

Is this the info you require Nigel?

Its coded for nav, so it should have comms, strangely no error in instruments or steering wheel about radio not being visible as such, so I would check wiring now.

What would you advise, removing the whole unit out of the dash and checking wiring behind the unit?

Nigel is there any particular reason why David can't do an "auto scan" & has to search for his car in the drop down list? excuse me if I'm wrong but i thought from 2005 onwards they was fitted with CAN, also he doesn't have access to the long code helper?

Yes, he has a B7, which isn't can based.

I've the stero removal keys from Audi today, hope here tomorrow, not really sure what to look for as the unit is working? Do you thinking removing the power lead then re-connecting will reset anything?
I did check with Audi what the spec was of my car when purchased new and they confirmed the 'Audi Navigation Plus' unit in my car was the unit specified on the options list when ordered.

Having now got the stereo removal keys I've egded out the unit to have a look behind, I noticed that there is a blue block connector hanging loose with two wires connected to it, does anyone know what this is for?
I haven't removed the unit completely as the other block connectors are fastened in really tight and with having large hands its difficult to get to the back of them.

Quick update
I've sorted out the issues I've been having.
When I bought the car it had a 6 pack cd changer in the boot, the plug for this that goes into the RNS-E unit is where the blue connector should be fitted had this not been fitted.
I acted on Nigel's advice and re-fitted the blue connector back in place thus removing the cd changer, I re scanned the car and this then showed modules 37 and 56 allowing me to make the changes to remove the sat Nav dvd :)
I'm still having issues doing a full scan as it still stops at module 46 but it did allow me today to access module 46 directly thus allowing me to activate the single alarm chirp :)
It seems I may have to take the car to an auto electrician to have the intermittent problem investigated with module 46 but I will first check that the sunroof channels are not blocked and also check underneath the battery as well for possible blockages causing water ingress, but overall a result today:applaus:
