Sportback Newbie questions!!

Evening all,

So just put a deposit down on an 8V Glacier White sportback with most toys.

Questions if I may!?

Can you retro fit the black roof rails and if yes, where can I get them from and can I fit them myself?

Alloys - Has anyone got any recommendations on what looks good on the Glacier White car? Would the black RS6 one work?

nice choice.

Does it have the Pan roof? I think they look better without the rails. I have heard you can fit but quite a big job.

Have a look at Ispiri wheels - I'm going to pull the trigger on some FFR6 I think when my tyres need changing and funds allow!

i asked (cant remember which thread) about retro fitting roof rails on here about 2 months ago.......

Its a massive job, the interior is fitted from the bottom up so as far as i remember you basically have to strip the rear seats and all of the trim from the floor up out, told it would take a good while and thats if you dont snap any clips.

The car does not have the sunroof, hence why the roof bars may help set it off a little more.

Does anyone have a pic (or good with photoshop!!) of a Glacier white RS3 with the black edition RS6 alloys?

Back to your roof rails - as said above, it is a long and tedious job for the reasons stated, but if you persist, then not over-complicated. There is a thread on it in the A3 forum.

As you've not got the pano roof, an alternative is to get the roof wrapped gloss back to break it up a bit?

As for wheels, I like the BBS CI-R in satin black, they do them in 8.5 x 19 ET32 for the RS3

I have found some at £230 for the pair that are attached by 3M tape.....any experience/thoughts with these?

I have never seen these, but there was a lot of talk on the A3 forum regarding their use. But if all you want is the look, then from photos they seem to do the trick - maybe ask the seller if they have a car with the rails on that you can look at before buying?

I note in their blurb they say these are same as factory fitted. You of course know they are not..!

My only concern would be when you come to sell - you must remove them in case the next owner decides to strap bars to the rail. Would the 3M tape be forgiving enough to peel off without any damage?

Response from seller, what sealant would I use???

Hi Matthew,

It comes with 3M tape as standard but you would need to put a sealant on it to stick it properly. The sealant you choose depends on you. You can get different types of sealants etc.

From my understanding of you use a sealant. You can heat it up and remove the rails. You can then just peal the rubber of use polish to make the area good again.

If you do end up purchasing the rails, please ignore what he says above.

3M tape is designed to only stick to a clean dry surface. Clean the surface to be stuck thoroughly with a surgical spit or equivalent to remove all traces of silicone, do not stick the items on when it is damp and, if possible, warm the surface before sticking for best results. Do not add any other glue or sealant.
