You can also get 18's under there no problems
and even 19's !

I made the same mistake with my A4 2.8 Quattro. I put 17" OZ's on when I got it, but they didn't look big enough. Eventually managed to wear out the tyres so I could justify changing the wheels again!
I went for 18" RS4 replicas on Goodyear F1 rubber and am really pleased with the result, £805 including the tyres, a real bargain.
