Couldn’t see a thread on this. Audi have officially launched the new S3. Orders from 13/8 https://www.audi.co.uk/new-s3.html https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/new-audi-s3-sportback-and-saloon-arrive-306bhp The limited edition Tango Red saloon looks lovely
So 0-62 in 4.8 down from 4.6...surely it should be faster not slower... Really not keen on the massive front grilles or the wheels which make me think of a Vauxhall, although maybe some nicer options will be available. Hopefully will look nicer in person.
They could have least updated the steering wheel looks the same as the current one, money saving by Audi? Also only 310 PS so same as the facelift pre gpf cars and slower to 60. Externally it does look good though.
Not sure why anyone with a facelift 8V S3 would 'upgrade' to the new model. Yes it will likely have a slightly nicer interior and better MMI however it is slower and quieter. Particularly with the recession we have now entered i would be surprised if this sells well...
Got to agree with this.... Yes some new infotainment tech Yes can get adaptive suspension But..... A lot of the optional fancy toys on FL seem options on new model too. Power back up to FL pre-WLTP levels, but most won’t be able to tell the difference Emissions / road tax: FL pre-WLTP: 150g/km FL WLTP: 155 (or 159 can’t remember) g/km New S3: 178g/km (according to AutoCar) - that’s £870 first year Road tax assuming list price is under 40k. I really hope that is a typo.......
The fake vents and black plastic on the rear looks awful. The rest of the car looks good outside. Disappointing it's only 310 PS when 2017 and 2018 cars were 310 PS and sounded lovely. I'm sure the 0-62 time in reality will be much faster than claimed but the car doesn't seem like a good upgrade to anyone with an 8V S3. Still planning on a MY17 RS3 saloon when they drop a bit more.
I don't get why only back to 310PS - The leaked document for the Golf R later this year was up to 328 and the S3 had been reported at 333 - So the golf could end up with more power and faster 0-60 Doesn't seem like progress plus you have to pay for Matrix headlights and 19 inch wheels where as the Edition 1 gets them as standard as the S3 is over the S-Line equipment - At least they do give you the Flat Bottom Steering Wheel and Storage Pack S3 Vorsprung is £8000+ on the Standard S3 - ouch!
I'm assuming this is part Vorsprung Edition as it has Black Styling Pack on it but no Panoramic roof which the Standard S3 doesn't - It's got chrome grill and mirrors etc - Would have been useful to have a picture of the standard look - Not a lover of the front grill
The sound issue is down to the new regulations, however Audi don't seem to be working their performance models to still sound good despite this. It can be done as BMW have done it, even hyundai have done it with their performance models. It just doesn't seem to be a priority for Audi, or perhaps they are simply only wanting to invest the time and money into this area on their RS models. As far as I can see the S range for Audi is a slightly more powerful version of the A range with little more than fancy back box that makes no sound.
I guess it’s using the current engine for launch date and it’s at the limit of how far they feel they can push it. Tuners would disagree though. Golf R engine will have some revised internals, and I’d be surprised if it didn’t appear in the new S3 during a model year revision.
True but I’d imagine the Marketing people going nuts if they were to not have a performance ‘3’ model for a year or so - no S3, RS3, or Golf R and they’d heamorrhage sales to the other marques.
I bet it's going to have one of them Soft limiters on it where its won't let you rev pass 3000/4000rpm. Surprised to see the Sun blind on the Pan Roof is still manually operated, when BMW and Mercedes both are electric. Come on Audi......... Also Audi could of at least change the design of the Steering wheel. nothing wrong with it but it's getting bit old now.
Does anyone know or have come across in a Golf et whether the S-Tronic shifter is Metal or Plastic? I can't find anything out about it and it's not used on the other models yet as far as I know
I agree - I'm hoping the Aluminium look one on the Standard S3 might take away from the black plastic a bit
I don't mind the shape as such as it's close to the current model anyway outside but I'm not liking the new grill that much Inside with the touchscreens that's just technology moving on
I think he's stopped at 2018 before they started putting the new grill in the current models and obviously carrying across to the 8Y
I thought they'd tweaked them when they started messing about with the emissions I've probably seen A1's that now look like the A3 they've got the new grills apologies
To be quite honest I do like the looks from the outside but the interior let's it down.would not swap it for my 19 plate facelift sportback.
I wonder is this just an interim solution with the old drivetrain and new body. My dealer was surprised that it was available for order as they had been told it would be Q4 at least before order books would open. The rumours seem to imply 333BHP and Haldex 5, this might be current engine and Haldex 4
that would be out of order if they did that and in 6 months time said now 333 and Haldex 5 as this is advertised as the New S3 - I would certainly be complaining to Audi UK if that happened and I’d spent my money on a new one as they say redesigned engine -
It was originally supposed to be out in May though so not sure where your dealer got Q4 although to be fair Q4 is only 2 weeks away - I got the May info from my mate who works at Audi and his internal system said May and then changed to August with immediate ordering
Configurator seems to be working but not sure about the standard wheels and all the silver inside and out.
