New S4 Avant B9

Gents, can you tell me if you have a service book with your s4s? Mine doesn't have one and the dealer said it's all electronic now. I want to believe him but would like peace of mind by asking the question.

Mine didn't come with one and neither did my wife's Skoda Fabia. Hers has been updated and viewed by an independent garage so I know it's a real thing at least... :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

Ok cool. Perhaps I'm showing my age here by wondering why we're paperless in a car with so much tech!

mine has nothing within the MMI - it's blank / not loaded on there?!?!
How do I fix this? Perhaps the misses can browse the manual whilst I tootle along a nice B road with a bit of classic FM in the background :whistle2:

There is a link at the top of this forum to the A4 manual. Usually the MMI version comes on a DVD disc in the document wallet ready to load into the MMI, if you so wish to. I am surprised it has gone to electronic now, possibly the dealership has it wrong.
Anyway, I could copy my DVD but I think it'll be for the wrong model.

What if you don't get your car serviced by the dealer though? I doubt an indie would know how to access an electronic service book haha

My wife's car was serviced with a VAG specialist independent garage last time and they were able to update the service history no worries. :)

Independents can register to be allowed to update Audi system I believe

Thanks.

Are there any warranty issues using an independent place for servicing/oil change?

Sorry dumb question, it's the first time I've had a new car.

What the hell is that Audi pre sense BS?

I was driving round a bend, like you do, car just randomly brakes very hard and then comes up with a warning!

There was nothing there!

Safe to say I've fully disabled it. Dangerous!!

Yeah it’s scared me a couple of times but actually there were people that were looking to just walk out in front of me.

Audi will tell you that there is an issue but the official stuff says that so long as the independent uses genuine parts and updates the system then they can't void the warranty as a result.

Winter tyres coming in handy this week hehe! Drove in a good six inches deep earlier no problem. Very steep country roads, snow drifts, -5C etc....no problems.

The reason the whole country is at standstill is literally because most people are too ignorant to buy winter tyres.

Sick of driving round people who are sh*tting themselves at 2mph. It's laughable really. You should get cheaper insurance if you use winter tyres, maybe that would be a good incentive for people.

Had some great fun this morning; empty car park + quattro + 6 inches of snow :)

S4 is hibernating while the diesel does its thing on the winter tyres!

Managed to drive through this...just for fun of course!

Hi guys....I enquired again about remapping the B9 S4 at Performance Torque.

There are several different ECU versions and not all can be remapped right away.

Unfortunately mine is still in development. I’ve been told to enquire again soon when they’ve completed development.

So basically, some but not all S4 can be remapped at the moment.

They did say the engines that can be remapped at the moment have had very impressive results.

Pothole wrecked my wheel.

£850 for a new one. Can’t be repaired reliably.

Woah, that's a serious hit! Might be worth making sure the tyre is alright on the inside as well if it managed to do that to a wheel...

Yes that’s a good point and often overlooked. The tyre seems to be bulging a bit but maybe because the rim is deformed.

I’m claiming through council so fingers crossed. The pothole was like a trench that went across the whole width of the road. Only hit it at 20mph. They seem to be sympathetic anyway.

Went to two alloy repair specialists and they said if it was their car they wouldn’t repair it. Would need to be heated, bent back, refinished and repainted.

If you don't laugh you'll cry......BOTH my front alloys are bent!

The pothole was like a trench that went across the whole road, so unsurprising really.

At least £1800 damage!

Tailpipes were totally black after almost a year of ownership. Really stubborn carbon.

Tried autosol, didn’t work. Tried petrol too, didn’t work.

Anyway found this oven/bbq cleaner. It works like snowfoam and bubbles up. Needles to say it works amazingly! Most of the gunk just dripped off on its own!

I clean mine once a week, so they never get into the some condition as yours. But a good find though...

Yes prevention better than cure, wish I’d kept on top of it. That stuff really does rip the carbon right off, well impressed. It hasn’t tarnished or damaged the pipes which I was worried about.

Found a cool little feature in the tiptronic paddles. Only just noticed it!

If you hold down the down shift paddle, the car will go into the lowest possible gear. You don’t have to shift sequentially through the gears. So basically you can go from 6th to 2nd straight away rather than cycling gears. Similar to kick down.

Also if you hold the up shift paddle, the car will revert back into the S or D drive mode instead of Manual (M).

Must be a new feature to the B9 model, my B8 doesn’t do it.

Also enquired again at P Torque about remapping, still not cracked the ECU yet but they said it’s really close. I’m guessing a couple more months.
