Its very nice, but and its a big but the A3/S3 is supposed to be a hatchback. If you want a saloon the A4/S4 is there.

It's far too big and similar to an A4/S4, and I really struggle to see the point of it to be honest.

A coupe-sized S3, like the BMW 1M would have been great - and would have helped fill a gap in Audi's product range - but this new S3 saloon is just too similar to some exising Audi model's in my opinion...

To be honest though, I think i would buy an S4 if there was a choice between the two. The A3 range has always been the smaller car and if i wanted a saloon I would go for the A4 as it's always been a saloon or avant!

there is the A3/S3 saloon, then the BMW... they are renaming the 1series coupe and convertible to the new 2 series, and then there is the mercedes CLA45 AMG

you guys decide which is better?

I think there is a market for it. I've just come from B8 A4 to 8V A3. The A4 is nearly half a metre longer and a good deal heavier. Most of the extra space was in the boot where I don't need it. In S3 guise it's also far more fuel efficient for very similar performance to the S4.

Why should the A4 be a saloon and A3 a hatch? The A5 Sportback is essentially an A4 hatch. Just a case of Audi covering every niche.

Well the Jetta is very successful in the states. The Bora on the other hand I don't really know.

Agree with what most are saying; nice I like it but I don't see the point, I've always considered the main difference between an A3 and A4 (at least from an uneducated point of view) to be the fact it's saloon vs hatchback.

its a really nice car and i love it, never really liked the new 3 but i think this is gorgeous imo!
what audi have tried to do is develop a car to run alongside the new beemers and mercs, there is a market there!, and by the looks of it have done very well indeed!
filled the gap audi style!
granted it may not have the porn star AMG engine of the merc, yet, but imagine if they bring an RS3 flavour one out? with black optics?
now i would say that would be an amazing car!

I like the look of that S3 saloon a lot, very much look forward to seeing the RS3 version. There is a an A250 AMG with all the bling a couple of streets away from me and that also looks great. It's going to fun choosing between these in years to come.

It looks nice but will end up like the Bora 2.8 4Motion. A really nice car but the values will plumit quicker than a stone as its just what they do with small saloons in the UK.

Yh I too thought the bonnet on the new merc was weird but if you have a good look there is a line where the front bumper meets the wing but not a proper line where the top of the wing, bonnet and bumper meet... They wouldn't have a bumper that goes all the way to the A pillar?

Its....alright. I can't help but the feel that the new S3 (hatch & saloon) has been toned down looks wise compared to the 8P one.

If I was in the market for a saloon it'd be the S4 with the supercharged V6 in a heartbeat though.

Also what's with the alarm/horn monstrosity in the bottom of the front grill? Noticed them on a few cars lately, please don't say they will be there on all new cars from now?

its a traffic sign reader camera thingy me jig!
its an expensive option that reads the speed limit and traffic signs and shows them on the cars display!
ugly and expensive to replace when a stone smashes it!

The merc and Beemer are both rank! Quite like the new a45 Amg but it still looks like a Kia from the back. Would have liked the s3 to be a coupe too, but an rs3 saloon would be a cracker especially if it got a proper 4wd with a switchable 60/40 rear bias. I suppose we can all dream, but I much prefer the more understated s3 to the others.

Forgive me for this, I'm going to just don my flame suit before I say it but... I don't like the 8V at all! Just looks bland, wish I loved it but not convinced especially by the saloon. I pulled up at the lights the other evening alongside a black 8V s-line 3dr. The wheels are an evolution of the current 8P2 S3, looks too sleek and not aggressive enough..
