Think I’m the same as others. Keeping my rs3 saloon for some time yet. Nothing out there looks great. New rs3 if has styling like the s3 is a no from me. Eu has ruined the sound of cars too, a45s sounds a joke and is too chavvy and overpriced for me, hand built 2 litre turbo engine, lolololol.

There isn’t one car that’s sensibly priced that interests me. If anything I’d go older, like an r8 a v10 approx 2015 model.

it seems most designers now need to go to specsavers. The new a3 looks horrible, but the 3 series and it’s monster grille, looks like pinocheo.

The design of new cars is simply not down to the designer, you can thank the EU for this. There are so many rules and regulations around crumple zones and pedestrian protection etc that designers have to take into account the looks are always going to be compromised.

Car arrived yesterday all the way from Bristol to Scotland. (Ordered through my salesman down there). Much more impressed with it in person and if I had the two together I’d still pick the 8Y over the 8V.

Sound - it’s definitely a tad quieter but I feel the overall note is deeper. Full cold air induction kit ordered from Ramair and that should be here tomorrow. Exhaust valves unplugged already.

It came with a bit of damage on the steering wheel on the left hand side closest to the dash, looks like someone’s ring has caught it and it’s knicked the leather in a line of about 10cm. It’s hard to see but you can feel it when your hand is on the steering wheel. Only noticed it when the delivery guy had left and I signed his paperwork.

My sales guy has said they will be happy to cover the cost to fix it no problem but would rather avoid a full wheel replacement.

Other than that and the virtual cockpit not showing the sport displays, I’m very happy with it.

I bet your happy with it! Go take it for a run, albeit only to the food shops.

Love the wheel choice.

I know it's a pain but I would get the steering wheel changed, it will niggle you if not.

Enjoy your lovely car!

Nice looking car mate. IMO with a good upholsterer specialist you could get that repaired quite easy. Hopefully it hasn't dampened the whole new car experience for you..

Nah spoke to a few leather specialists and they said it could be fixed with minimal interference. They have offered to replace the full steering wheel if I prefer but would obviously rather it didn’t come to that.

definitely not dampened the spirit, I actually forgot about it today when I was driving it. Will be getting repaired when it goes in for ceramic coating next week.
Full induction kit fitting tomorrow.

Just found something out that’s really disappointed me and never picked up on on my test drive.

On the 8V S3 as you will know there’s a range of displays you can flick through including the single dial sports display. As it turns out the new style Rev counter we have seen on the new S3 models is a European only feature and isn’t programmed into the UK S3s. Therefor you have no sport dial display.

What on earth are they thinking??

Just found out that myself, not happy.

On all the demo / launch cars they all had sport displays, even UK ones.

V poor Audi UK!!

Probably could be coded, but not ideal. very annoying.

Not really the point.

Why advertise something on all of the press cars, and then remove it on the UK cars without telling anyone!

Sales misrepresentation.

Anyway nothing I can do about it now as the car is at the dealers, just waiting on a collection date.

I thought that would have been clear when I said "not ideal".

Yea I was well aware of this which is why i went to test drive a UK spec one before deciding to buy, its not that big of a deal and the 10” display is just fine.

It is annoying that all of this stuff is only available as things stand on the Vorsprung, when most of the kit is available on the A3 though. You should be able to spec HUD or larger screen etc if you wanted to.

The smaller VC display looks terrible in them, it clearly looks too small. Audi making you pay extra for the large display on the S3 is ridiculous

you don’t pay extra because it’s just not available on anything other than the vorsprung model yet. I would probably have specced the larger VC if I could, but now it’s here I have to say it doesn’t really make any difference.
I thought it would bug me a little coming from a GTI that had a larger VC but it hasn’t bothered me at all.

Information wise it may be spot on, but from an ascetic point of view it doesn't look right.

It's also a bummer that you can't spec it outside the top of the range package.

Totally agree with it being daft that you can’t spec it, I suspect after the vorsprung model is released they’ll make it available as an option, same with HUD, they’ll obviously use it to try and tempt people into further upgrades IMO.

So had the car a few days now, my initial thoughts:

Still absolutely love it, the midrange feels stronger than the previous S3 (2017). Reading you guys comments above, I have to echo a couple in that coming from the 2017 S3 where the virtual cockpit was bigger, I thought it was annoy me greatly. I have to be totally honest and say that I'm not overly disheartened now that it's smaller, and of course it is a total PITA that the sport dials have been removed - but I'm holding out for these being able to be coded in at a later date, as much of a gimmick it is, it's still a £40k sports car essentially and it should have it..

The ride feels better over bumps than the previous gen on the 19s and it feels more tight in the corners over all.

Question for anyone who may have one:

Is there any way to get a rear parking sensor dialogue to show on the MMI? The sensors work fine but it's a bit confusing on what it actually is you are getting close to when there's bollards all around you without any dialogue as to which sensor is going mad at you for being so close to something. Surely they've not removed that as well?

Also - for anyone thinking of fitting an induction kit: I bought the Ramair JSK-121 which is from the previous gen and fits the EA888 engine, however, for this 8Y Audi have changed the mounting points for the air box and added a secondary pipe which connects onto the stock turbo elbow. So although the airbox fits into the space, the rubber grommets are different and therefor it won't secure properly. As for the turbo elbows, as I said, Audi have added a secondary pipe which piggies onto the stock elbow so a bit of development needed before any induction kits are released.

it's honestly not a bad looking car externally to be fair....from my point of view it would'nt be upgrade at all.....as there is no point in changing/paying more for a brand new car when it offers nothing more than l have in the driveway...State of the art Technology aint a priority for me l am going to go for a older...Audi. TTS Vorsprung 320ps as soon as it's available order= a wee bit improvement engine wise but most importantly it's got old school interior build quality

Please do! Was gutted when the ramair didn’t fit - I wasn’t anticipating any issues with it.

Yeah. They said it was quite a bit different which is why they’ve had to design a new one. They were hoping the 8V would fit.

Do all cars come delivered like this these days? I remember 2 cars ago, a driver drove it down, and I drove him to the nearest station, current car, I went all the way to Sunderland (I'm based in London) to collect it, you know that new car (14 miles only) feeling. I did ask if I could collect the A3 myself (whenever it arrives, and if we are still in lockdown) they said, unlikely, but will check...

My new S3 is currently at my local dealer, just waiting for all finance docs to be complete.

Car will be collected from the dealer, but all done outside in the car park!!

Mine was the same, makes it a little awkward if there’s anything you want to walk through in terms of how things work etc but generally process was very smooth.
