SQ5 New owner of 2015 SQ5, couple of questions

Hi all, have just bought a 2015 SQ5 for my wife mainly but general daily duties so I can keep my car tucked up

Have a couple of issues that I wanted to ask you experts about.

Sometimes, but more often than not, when the car changes up from 2nd to 3rd gear, it seems like it changes twice into 3rd, I can only explain it as like a slipping feeling, so it’ll go 2nd, into 3rd, Revs drop, then it sounds like it changes again but it’s still in 3rd. This is the only gear it does this in. It’s perfect in manual mode, and gearbox mode (auto, comfort, dynamic) doesn’t seem to alter it at all.

Also, seem to have a brake judder, hoping it’s not needing front discs already. Cars done 50k, 1 owner and is otherwise perfect.

Welcome to the board. The gearbox doesn't sound right - needs a visit to a dealer to read the error codes the transmission ECU will have stored. The Tiptronic transmissions are nigh on bullet proof and failures are VERY rare.

I know this sounds weird but one can sense what seems like brake judder if the chassis alignment is out - would be worth getting a 4 wheel alignment check done.. it happened on my last 2014 SQ5.

Said it before the SQ5 for me is a most amazing machine, just does everything so well, and nothing I'd swap it for, period!

Followed a similar spec to ours yesterday and couldn't fault the looks.

And the number of people who enquire of it is amazing. 8-months of ownership now and am still stunned by ours.

That said, must take our RS3 and TT out one day soon if only to clean off the brake discs, otherwise this SQ5 is the 'one' to take

My recommendation - and what I DID so not just the talk - would be to get all 4-discs ProCut and then fit Ferodo Eco-Friction brake pads; for information go see: https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threa...ounting-down-to-a-place-near-me.386559/page-4 and post #150: 'tis what I did and would recommend again and again and again and again.

And as ALL 4-brake discs are 'cut' on-the-car so you 'know' will be 100% TRUE - removing inner and outer 'clag' from both the inside and outer brake disc surfaces too.

And GEAR-CHANGE: as with cosmicnblue, get it to a reputable AUDI dealer - PM Sandra for your area.

As for the vibration when braking, now that you mention it, the steering wheel is off centre when traveling straight, so an alignment could be on the cards this weekend first. Some days the shudder is worse than others....

I took my 2016 Perth 'supplied' Dundee 'serviced' SQ5 straight to my Stafford Audi dealer and said "sort it!!!!" An MOT (done 2-months previously) and FULL service please.

I dismissed the 'seller's' warranty! Period! But told 'em should an Audi dealership big-hit arise then they'd be 3rd to know!

My Stafford Audi dealer 'IS' brilliant, I trust 'em! They know I'll not take 'XYZ' from them and so I/we get 100% service.

And so gave them the 'responsibility' and a 12-month warranty. So should you! If only to ensure ALL Audi upgrades, if any, have been applied. Your life out there!

Years ago I did my own thing; purchased and sorted cars myself; now, thins are different, compounded with age and cancer, but the principles are the same; take it to your Audi dealer and get it sorted, who knows, your wife could be out there driving...

If you can find a local enthusiast with vcds then they can scan it for you.

That’s true. It sounds lovely at idle for a diesel. However I don’t get a huge amount of interior noise even in dynamic mode?

It's a bit more diesel like when it's cold but yeah it's not intrusive unless you go into a multi storey car park!
You may want to add a sound booster to your shopping list if not already. They do make the exhaust speakers sing

Piano black looks great. The centre console was replaced before I got it. The dealers said they basically fit a new one in every single Q5 they get in.

I did kind of wonder how the hell people dent them?!

My mate has the aluminium trim in his SQ5. That was replaced by the dealer when he bought it and its dented again after 18 months.
Cant beat the carbon imo, still looks brand new

Piano black looks great. The centre console was replaced before I got it. The dealers said they basically fit a new one in every single Q5 they get in.

I did kind of wonder how the hell people dent them?!

The silver/aluminium is mega easy to dent and forever getting replaced, apparently. I like piano black and that, for us, was a no question change.

Nah, it's just the plastic carbon lol
But it does add that sporty feel to the cabin and literally looks brand new after 4 years!

The brushed aluminium cover 8R0863305M 1NK was £100 inc and they sell a lot of those; the piano black 8R0863305K 1LQ was £240 inc as they sell less due to 'em not getting damaged, so I guess the carbon 8R0863305P 7V7 will be similar.

Other alternatives are listed including ash brown natural...

I've also lost the tdi badge and the V6T ones as well.

Had the alignment done today, they said it was miles out. Now steering wheel is nice and straight when you drive straight which makes a huge difference to the enjoyment factor! The brake judder is strangely intermittent.


A new issue is starting to rear it’s head, the screen and MMI system keep crashing. Have to reset with the 3 button thing.

No idea on the iPhone music: we'eve everything set 'DYNAMIC' so just listen to the exhaust note rumble; call it false/enhanced/whatever, just love that V6 rumble...

Never had an iPhone so probably not the best to answer but the usual ways to stream your phone are by bluetooth and wifi.
The bluetooth works fine but I've never successfully got the wifi to work properly on my samsung android phones
You can also connect with the mmi iphone cable if you have one

I can’t get the car to find the phone as a music device. The phone finds Audi MMI but nothing happens. Bluetooth calling etc works perfectly. Totally confused to be honest. I have to admit, BMW’s Idrive system runs rings round Audi MMI.

Thanks. It’s never dirty anyways. I’ve got proper OCD with it. It was due a service the other day, so it did a 15 mile round trip to the dealers and I did a full wash and detail when it got back lol
