Initial impression on design is not positive but sometimes you have to see the car in real life. The lack of mmi wheels and the new touchscreen puts me of. Just not a fan of touchscreen in a car. Think that the integration of the A6-A8 screen looks rushed and sorry to say but I think that mercedes with their new cabine and screens look better.
Disagree on your comments regarding A6 A8 i think it's great but I agree Mercedes do it best by combining traditional controls and interior feel with new tech. I'm obviously excluding the C Class from that statement.
That rev counter : It’s got a more than unnerving touch of Austin MG Montego/ Maestro about it ... yuk....
Drove a X3 M40i yesterday. Personally loved the display and infotainment. They have definitely upped their game in the interior, and that engine
I dont like the lack of customisation on what info you can see and dislike the way the instruments follow the outline of the binnacle. Feels like they released a BETA version. But, it wouldnt put me off the new 340 or the upcoming M3. Given the diesel S move and the almost non-existent changes to the A4/A5 interior I think a new 3 series could well be my next motor. Got another year with the S5 though thanks to a good lease extension price.
I think the way the design line flows through the arches, but doesn't flow into the door panels is an attempt to link the facelift A4 to the new A6/A7/A8 with the 'quattro' style shoulders and clean door panels, pending a full new model in 2-3 years. Marc Lichte, head of Audi Design has stated on many occasions that that this design cue will be a feature of all new Audi in the near future. Whether it is a successful design cue in this facelift remains to be seen. I've learned over the years to never judge cars looks from highly processed press photos and to see them in the metal instead before deciding..I never liked the original B9 photos until I saw it in the showroom
I just saw at a petrol station an A3 with the new front like the one in the photos of the A4 and it looks so ugly. If it wasn't for the audi badge I would have thought that it was a Hyundai. The ugliest part is the gap between the top of the grille and the bonnet. The grille itself is so see through that you can see all the insides. I can't see many current audi owners wanting to upgrade to the 2020 model.
I was hoping to give the diesel S4 a chance in a way, once you get past the 'image' of diesel instead of petrol in a 's' it does sound like a good powerplant. I like the new honeycomb grille actually, but between the touchscreen, the strange lip, the fussy looking lights and the lack of crease in the doors and a hefty price rise to boot its not looking favourable for one of these to replace the current car.
Guess i won't be changing for a while..looking at the images and specs that been released so far, it seems to have ruined the S4 appeal, The virtual cockpit looks awful compared to the current VC. I really hope that they learn there errors of ways before I buy the next one.
I think it's a nod to the old Quattro Coupe and it's used in most, if not all latest generation Audis. I love it on the A6:
The B10 is live on the Audi.de configurator and it’s diesel - wonder if we will get the alcantara s/s seat option?
Totally agree with you there. The bonnet line and the line they are trying to do like on the A6 doesn’t work. As you can see, bonnet line fits Plus why did they spend all that money ‘facelifting’ the current B9 with the new bumpers when they had the real facelift in the works?
When I originally posted up this would happening in another thread last year I asked the very same question. I doubt if Audi would give us a reply...
As I stated, the VC can be configured to be the same as the current one and once the actual cars are released we will see for sure. What will be, in reality, can't be based upon just one photo of, what I believe is, a configuration for the S models. What we are seeing are pre release illustrations so yes some things might change...
It's the b9.5, not the B10. Nah. It's an illusion because the swage line isn't continued along the car like the older model. The RS4 will still have wider arches than that. I've seen no images of the current circular dial in the middle from the current S4. Only the dual dials or the Astra GTE style linear rev counter in the middle, or the same replacing the dials on either side. If you can change entirely change from two totally different VC styles, each with it's own std and sports dial set up, that I welcome addition I say. There should be more skins available for the VC to take advantage of the fact that it's a screen and so can basically display anything they like.
The VC just looks unfinished, as I'm basing my thoughts on images which is kind of putting me off and the fact it is a diesel as well. It may be better looking at it when it's in the showroom in flesh.
Considering jumping then? I have to say given the way Audi are going then an X3M40i or a 640i GT will be next on my list.... or maybe I will decide I can cope with sitting lower and go Merc E450 coupe... Nothing Audi have done recently would tempt me out of my PETROL SQ5. With MMI wheel....
Autogefühl review - like these as their is minimal, if any, cr@p. @ 4.75 mins - think he says rhs exhaust tips on S4 TDi are fake???? S4 TDi is for Europe & Russia. Wrote to the author of the Audi Media Centre release of the A4 and asked '19 A4 model designation. Her reply was: "B9 product improvement"
Wouldnt be surprised if exhausts are fake - my son in law's new C43 petrol has 4 lovely exhaust pipes on show that are apparently fake and real exhausts (2) are hidden behind. At least it means they stay clean...
the new front is so ugly and off-putting that even Audi themselves didn't dare put a single picture of it on the front page of their .de webpage, instead concentrating on sides and rear.. https://www.audi.de/de/brand/de/neuwagen/a4/der-neue-s4-avant.html
I would jump in a heart beat (I ONLY have 2.0 TFSI at the mo) but missus saying keeping Q5 for just over a year is too soon...hate it when they are right! Next year then probably. Fantastic car, engine, sound, interior...and proper exhausts too
We had had this debate before when the minor facelift came out last year, these look exactly the same and are real...
Just ignore her, you can always get a new one of them too (slightly more expensive than swapping a car though...) I've had my SQ5 for 20 months and am thinking that maybe sept would be a good time for a swap. I dont like the X3 as much as the Q5 but I cant get a new version of mine, so its either the X3 as the nearest new alternative or try something totally different. And I dont have anyone else with an opinion on what I do
Its OK. I haven't been impressed by it and the fuel economy isn't as good as I was expecting. I'm averaging 36mpg which is a mix of motorway and city driving. It seems to go OK when you boot it though, its very smooth and quiet. Almost too quiet to be honest.
This is a very good point, but I can't afford to change her...lol Book a drive of x3, I was very pleasantly surprised. Much much better than their old one. And little things like the parcel/luggage cover being able to fit under the boot floor...so simple, but a real pain with Q5
So quiet smooth and goes when you need it to . Is there something they makes you unimpressed in particular as that seems to sound ok to me ? On the fence about getting one at the moment
