Hello Mark,
Is this similar to JBS's JB05 hybrid turbo... developing around 310bhp? If so, do you know if its likely that adding a custom manifold, downpipe and sports cat is likely to obtain the 340bhp JBS are claiming for their hybrid turbo?

Thanks,

Glen

Am I right in thinking that you can use this hybrid turbo with standard exhaust, manifold and injectors, and just requiring a custom remap? Of course the added benefit of uprating the other parts is more power, but I'm thinking this would be a good replacement for a blown turbo and getting more power in the process without spending silly amounts of money north of £2k.

Yes our turbo can be fitted to a stock car, obviously to get the very best it is recommended to replace other components but you can see some good increases across the rev range with just the turbo.

Yep, sounds about right.

Backdraft are offering a similar turbo for £650 +vat.

Has Backdraft provided any proof that this turbo is somewhat capable of the JBS05? Such as Dyno prints, boost logs, EGT logs?

The JBS05 has a fully custom billet aluminium compressor wheel capable of 400bhp with a totally resized exhaust turbine and CNC'd housings, both compressor and turbine.

I have been looking myself to see if there are any comparable turbos to the JBS05 to ensure we are aiming at the right sort of value.... I cannot find any?

We supply the K04 hybrid to bridge the gap between standard cars remapped and our big turbo conversions. As an approved distributor for all the main manufacturers of turbos we are able to supply genuine and modified turbos at prices most others cant get close to. This is why we are able to supply our KO4 hybrid for £650 plus VAT. KO4 hybrid spec - Hi flow K04 compressor wheel, cnc machined compressor housing , large trim K04 turbine wheel, lightening of turbine wheel for faster ‘spool up’, cnc modified turbine housing, ported wastegate, uprated turbine seals
We don't rely solely on Dyno graphs which can be easily twisted to show innacurate power figures. Performance on the road is our key, unless you just fancy a Sunday morning drive along the local rolling road:jump:
There is no way we would recomend for 340 BHP to be flowed through the highly restrictive KO4 flange between the exhaust manifold and turbo. No matter what is done to the internals of the turbo this flange still remains I'm afraid. Also to quote that the internals of a turbo are capable of 400BHP is both missleading and irrelevant in this instance!
We stand by every product we sell and go through extensive testing using our race and road programmes.
Our KO4 hybrid uses its dimensions as efficiently as possible but it wont flow more than 300 bhp safely. If you want to go over 300BHP you need to balance the whole system and remove restrictive elements like the turbo to exhaust manifold flange, which is done using our big turbo kits.
It's great that there is another company producing turbo kits like ours as this gives you, the customer, more choice. We excel in well developed and proven products with great customer service. You choose.

Mark

Hi.
Would these be fitted to a 1999 A6 Avant 1.8T??

Which model 1.8T.
Our KO4 uses the standard KO4 housing so it is only intended to replace the KO4, not a KO3.
Please let me know and I will see what we can do to help.
Best Regards
Mark

Glen - I thought you would be interested to know that I've had the Garrett GT2860RS Backdraft Kit fitted now since August (nearly 6 months) with no problems. IMO it's a solid kit worth paying the money for if you want big power gain and peace of mind that your engine isn't going to disintegrate.

Only problem for me is I always want more :weight_lift2:

At the end of the day I believe you get what you pay for.

If you would like any other info, just give me a shout I'd be happy to help.

Hello Gavin,
I've just read a thread regarding your possible boost leak. Would you not consider that a problem worth mentioning? Or have you managed to rectify it?

Cheers,

Glen
