Hi everyone,
Thanks for looking in. I’m after a bit of advice and hopefully someone can help? I have a 65 plate white A3 5 doors and I’m wanting to get the windows tinted, I’m just not sure if I should tint all windows or just the back windows?
if anyone has any advice, I would appreciate it as I’ve never got my windows done before and well I don’t want it to look ****.

I got the rear dark tinted (1 level lighter than limo tint I think) and a light tint on the front door windows. It looks fine and blends in a bit better with the fronts done. My car is black.
Thanks for that, I appreciate it.

Welcome

It depends on the look you want, but bear in mind there are legal restrictions limiting tint on the front seat side windows. The degree to which that is enforced is variable though.

Hi John,
Thank you for your reply. I think it’s 30% light for the front window and 25% for the front side windows? Another question I have is - what’s it like night time driving with tinted windows? Especially on roads with no lights?

Hi Fatbloke,
I forgot to ask you - what it’s like to drive at night?

It’s the other way. 25% on the front windscreen and 30% on side windows up to the B pillar
most cars will have this tint fitted as standard (you should be able to see the markings on the glass stamp), so any additional tint will usually push you over the limit.

Just for when others reads this, maybe just the way I’m reading it wrong or the beer kicking in. The windscreen needs to let through 75% light so the tint can only be 25% and most glass isn’t perfectly clear so that leaves very little wiggle room. Same with the front side, it needs to let 70% of the light through. Most glass let’s between 70-80% light through so there’s almost no point in tinting the front windows as the risk is potentially points and fine.

...........correct. All tinted windows from the factory are on the legal limit, add anything darker & it will become illegal.

Hi Booti,
Thanks for the info - trust me to get it the wrong way round lol, like I said I have no idea about tint. So what sort of markings would be on my windows if they have already been tinted?

Thanks AlS3BE, I didn’t know that.

Thanks RS3 S, I don’t think they have any factory tint - but I will be looking into it.

It should say something like “min 70% transmission” but that’s only if tinted during manufacture - not aftermarket.
