So I've decided to get my S3 remapped as it currently has idling issues with my VWR CAI fitted and as my clutch is temperamental I guess it would be a good idea to upgrade it before hand.

After doing a lot of reading I think I am going to go for the tried and tested Sachs Organic Performance Clutch with LUK DMF.

What I need to know is exactly what parts I need so I can take it to a garage and say fit that as my mechanical knowledge is minimal! :)

the s3 runs a consentric release bearing mate so that is the slave cylinder.
yes replace the fly wheel bolts.

Consider all your options carefully, Sachs has been a very expensive exercise for me and the first one failed after 8,000 miles (not abused in any way). Sachs have done everything to avoid any sort of reimbursement with a string of conflicting responses about the state of the clutch from 'we can see nothing wrong with it' to producing a specialist report on a clutch that clearly wasn't the one I sent back to them saying that it was 'badly burned'. Since then they outright refuse to answer any communication.

Spec do some very good clutches and I've not heard of a single one failing.

And the alternative organic spec clutch would be which Rustybucket. ?
Thanks.

I think it's the Spec Stage 2+ http://www.specclutch.com/products the only thing I'm not sure about is if this one uses the DMF or SMF, I'm sure someone else will chime in and confirm either way. I suspect it's more expensive than the Sachs and I could have just been incredibly unlucky, @S3Alex had his until 440bph where as I'm at Stage 2+ at 355bhp @ 385ft/lbs. If I knew then what I knew now I'd have spent a bit more on the Spec ;-)

I believe the Spec uses a SMF

But after driving an S3 with Spec Stage 3+ and SMF you can't really tell it had it, really easy to drive.

May consider going spec then. Any one know who can supply these? I know AMD can but anyone else?

Yes, the 3+ definitely uses the an SMF but not sure about the 2+ though. Here are a couple of dealers listed on the spec website.

For sure,yes,SMF.

The Spec is light and easy to drive, and more importantly good around town,as it's a full face clutch rather than a paddle type.
It will chatter a bit at idele, but on the move,as you say,you won't notice the difference.

Mine has finally started to slip a bit, after 4 yrs and 40k miles, and running 540lbs.

I ran it at stage 2 for 6000 miles and 2+ (at the power output above) for 2000 miles and like I said, I didn't abuse it :-(

@S3 ALEX, nooooooo, it's lasted well, what will you put in next?

It has done exceptionally well.

There were 2 choices.....Spec Stg5 offered the only reasonable torque capacity increase, but is not exactly street-friendly.
The other is a DSG conversion, using the Syvecs ECU to control it,and to manage torque limits etc.

So...DSG.

i didnt bother with the organic plate and went for the sintered paddle clutch from sachs, with there uprated pressure plate and a new luk flywheel. the bite is very sharp!!! lol

When I got my spec 3+ I spoke to spec about the 2+ and they said it had the same driving character as the 3+ but obviously a different material that needs some bedding in where as the 3+ doesn't need any , when you look at the overall cost of the job it just wasn't worth going for the 2+ for me I'm no where near the torque the 3+ is rated too but it is nice to know it will gobble up any abuse I throw at it and pretty much laugh at me

@Samsellars has just sourced a 3+ and then amd fitted it so he will know the recent cost @Rob C
Go to whizbitz can be found on spec's dealer locator roughly 1100, fitting at AmD was 350 without vat. Looking at about 1500 ish all in, I was pretty happy as anywhere else wanted 1400 for the clutch
