new car - crease on bolster

PIcked up my new S3, but noticed two (lightish) creases on the right hand side bolster of the drivers seat. I know it wasn't me as I'm very, very careful of not touching the bolster getting in and out, and I don't touch either side when in the seat. I can only presume it was done during the valet/pdi drive etc and someone's sat on the side of it...a shame as the rest of the car is perfect.

Anyone else's new car come with anything like this on delivery? I'll mention it to the dealer, but I can't imagine much can be done, and I probably don't want another seat fitted, as I like to avoid taking it to the dealer if I can help it...

    Awesome car though :)

I'm all for complaining when things are not perfect but a crease in the leather is where I'd draw the line. Fair play though if your not happy!

    Hi scooby2000

I have something similar with the seat bolsters on my S3 (the bit your backside sits on).

On my its got a "ripple" creased effect where its like the leather was not pulled tight against the alacantara when stitched. Was like it on day I picked mine up.

I took it to my dealer and they said it didn't pass the warranty "threshold" to swap the seat covers out. They had a repair kit but they were not confident it would be any better when done. I took mine in when it had 300 miles on the clock so there could be no accusations my fat bum did the damage.

Its been recorded on their system so if gets worse hopefully Id have more of an argument to get it replaced.

Give it a week and it'll be covered in creases. Simply unavoidable

Yep agreed. Mine had 2 creases on collection day. Unavoidable in my opinion.

It is quite poor when you think about it. Previous cars I have had with leather / alcantara have have never had this problem.

They should probably use a tougher leather on the seat bolsters as these are areas of the seat prone to the highest wear.

The 'valcona' leather used in the side bolsters in the A6 / A7 does not crease at all from my experience.

Other manufacturers manage to avoid the "unavoidable".

Bolsters should not display creases upon collection. Poor quality from Audi in this instance.

After paying all this money you shouldn't expect this..especially from Audi! My MG TF has Alcantara/leather seats and the bolsters haven't creased/baggy and that's after 13 years...and it was built in Longbridge!

    Bain that's a bit inconclusive.

On my two previous A3s the side bolsters were worn far too quick, though the 2nd stood up better than the 1st.

With the S3 though by day 2 I could see they will get worn, they are too puffy and should have been filled better, mine look the same as the sides of a 70k mile 3 Series. My worry is in 3 years will they just start ripping.

If I had the energy I would kick up a fuss, I do plan to mention it at service time.

Probably more an observation than a complaint. But, Bain0, grateful for your helpful interjection nonetheless.

If it's any consolation, mine turned 6 months old this week. And after 31,500 miles it's still the same as day 1......slightly creased, but no big deal.

This was mine yesterday, day 1 of having it!
This was mine on day 1! Yesterday! I'm not pleased about it, think Audi would swap it?

It's bad for day 1 but leather goes that way, possibly what Audi would come back with...

An annoying design trait with the a3 seats I'm afraid. Both 8Vs I've had have done this within weeks of ownership, Audi won't do anything about it.

Had this on both my 8P's and my current 8V. It's a feature and not a fault. After having my 8P's in numerous times for this and other issues Audi finally described the cause of the creases as "aggressive entry and exit". Audi's resolution = enter the car bum first, taking care not to touch the bottom edge of the seat, place knees together and then lift your legs in as if you have a skirt on. To exit place one foot firmly outside the car, taking care to clear the bottom edge of the seat while doing so, then use this leg to lift yourself out while pivoting to avoid brushing the seat. This is what my dealer said... I kid you not!

Real issue is that its a design fault and Audi uses cheap and thin leather on their seats to save costs. Same issue with the Cabrio hoods, all be it with a different material. Surprised the Audi paint is not designed to scratch and chip on it's own.

l noticed this long before l got my car, in all Audi's,its not the leather that's at fault, its the inferior/cheap foam underneath, never had this in any other car i have owned,l have to kinda Jump/Vault over the side bolster whilst getting in and out of the car to avoid any contact with side bolster..and your quite rightly to be unhappy with it,never mind the plonkers who say other wise, take the car back and "Ask the Question" its the poor quality foam, the leather is of good quality.

As others have said above, within a few weeks there will be more creases in the seat than Anne Robinsons face...

Well it made me chuckle lol.

I don't think anyone has an answer, other than acknowledging that it is a weak bit of design and pestering Audi for a fix (but let's be honest, that won't happen). I do agree it looks like the foam which sags rather than the leather. I treated my leather from day 1, and the result is now a well treated, but still creased bolster.

It really bugs me! In time I know it will happen but if you are really careful it can def stop it being too bad. A 40k car with bad creases on bolster on arrival! A lot of people wouldn't care but anyone who cares about the car def would. I think it's a design flaw. Almost all Audi leather seats seem to have the issue.

I have paid a fortune on the numerous Audis I've owned over the years. The leather gets better with age... Strange as the passenger and rear seat look like cheap pvc but the driver seat looks like expensive leather. May be the **** sweat lol....

There was a similar thread on here about the leather bolsters.

Simon L had the problem solved. He said "Don't sit on them".

They can't say that as I pointed it out the second I opened the door for the first time. There doing all the can by contacting Audi UK etc so will see. I don't like putting my car in to get work done either but recon it would be worth a non-creased seat.

That's fair enough and you're well within your rights to complain. But even if they replace the seat, you'll have a saggy bottom again within months, if not weeks. It is a rubbish piece of design / material choice.
