After owning a few B5s, a B6 and now a B7 2.0 TDI BRE engine I'm after some advice as follows:

Bought for 1500 it's pretty much a trade deal. Has a known underboost fault which looks like to be a split turbo to intercooler pipe. A new one should be with me tomorrow.

That aside, if that sorts the car I'd like to know the following:

It has some service history. Cambelt last known to be done at 64k. It's at 128k. Is it required? Is there a decent how to guide as I'd like to DIY;

It has only come with one key fob and the valet key. What are the important things I should look out for in a 2nd hand key such that it works off the fob and starts the car I.e. is able to be reprogrammed for both;

Is there a decent how to guide for replacing the fuel filter;

Is there a decent how to guide for an audi-esque major service;

I'd like to install cruise control and a stalk to work the DIS. It has a multi function steering wheel. What else do I need?

Lastly, anyone know of a decent mapping agent in the West Mids area that won't charge a small fortune to take her to 170bhp?

It's good to be in an Audi again (the other cars are a Touran and Mk2 Golf gti) but I suspect it's going to need some time and money to make it right. Cheers

All I would say is be very careful with the torquing of the stud on the cambelt tensioner, and probably look into getting an after market 10mm upgrade in the INA kit.

Might just have been ****** luck but I've had two second hand cars with c. 110k (1 BRE, 1 BLB) on them in the past two months and they both have had cambelt failures as a result of this pin shearing.

Personally won't be going anywhere near the 2.0tdis again.

Ok thank you that's good to know. I know ECP do an INA timing belt kit for these I'll need to enquire if it includes the modified stud.

I've had a quote from TPS too for a genuine kit. Any ideas if they already contain an upgraded stud?

No idea, there are INA and Gates kits that seem to have variations on the pin and tensioner design. Be worth speaking to a specialist garage about it imo. It's about £2k if it breaks so well worth getting right. Got a scrap collection of them going now.

New turbo to intercooler pipe arrived today, less than 24 hours than I ordered it. 34 quid is better than 200 which tps wanted for it:

Here's the old one off. The split is clear to see:

New one in place:

And service:

Goes like stink finger again.

Anyone any thoughts on fuel filter, keys, maps and cambelt as mentioned above?

The manual says cambelt every 80k but silent on time. That would land this at needing one in 10k time purely on miles alone though I don't feel like rolling the dice.

Arc performance in Gloucester seem to have a good rep they use celtic tunings software, i think there stated numbers are a lil exaggerated but from what ive heard and seen they do good work and about as good as your get unless your going the full live mapping but expect to pay big money, and your stock ecu will probably need changing to make the most out of a live map.

If you're over this way... Performance Remap, Gloucester are pretty good - even other tuners have said the map they do is high quality (so it's not just my lowly opinion).

Let me know how it goes mate I'm torn between arc and performance remap, they both have great reviews but ultimately unless its a live map there only going to be off the shelf maps so not a lot of talent is involved in proper “tuning” so i think there all be similar unless you go full custom tbh then of course the talent of the person tuning it comes into play.

Let me know if you find anywhere locally (i'm also just down the road) that can do exterior work/engine mods - I'm struggling so far and lack of time/know-how are my issues.
p.s. Chris from Performance Remap can come out to do mobile mapping - did a few cars at my work.

Good to know chaps. I'll drop them a call.

But not before this new issue found today is sorted.

Diesel is leaking from or around the Diesel cooler pipes under the car. Anyone know if there are any O rings in the connections before I rule it to be a split flow or return pipe? A diagram of how it all hangs together would be useful.

Looks like I'll need to do some digging there.

On a separate note, any ideas what went here in terms of part numbers:

I get it's some sort of phone prep just wondering if it's worth reinstating at all or bin it, replace the console and upgrade the stereo to some sort of touch screen affair?

Hmm I can still Bluetooth to the factory mod even though the cradle is no longer there. Shame it's not capable of streaming music
