Hi all,

I put a deposit on a 59 plate a6 3.0 tfsi avant on Saturday and will collect it this week. It needs a few cosmetic bits and wheels refurbed etc but otherwise very tidy.

I'm coming from a 65 plate S4 so had to keep the same engine as it's a great piece of kit. Planning on a stage 1 or 2 upgrade very quickly.

I'm going to get an oil change and health check just to make sure it's in good health, but . . . The passenger door won't open externally when unlocked. I've changed all the settings on the MMI to make sure it's not that, and all the other doors work. I heard that this is a fairly common problem, but just wondered how expensive it is to fix?!

Does anyone know the car?

I just found my dream car... Search for yours via Auto Trader #DrivenByMe

Very nice looking car, I'm afraid I can't comment on the door handle but hopefully it won't cost too much to rectify.

Great car!
Same looking like mine. Colour is same apart ... well. The colour is the same. Lol

As for the handle, could be the handle. If the door opens fine from inside I would definitely get the door card off to check it out.
There are some yt tutorials how to remove the cards, handles and locks.
I would only do that if the dealer would not rectify within the price.

They asking for some money there so,
come on, get them to do that for you.

Forget the cosmetic stuff as you'll do that when ready. Don't forget to ask some money off for that too, tho.

I've agree to the car on the condition that the door is fixed and it has a new MOT.

Very hard to price these as they are so hard to find. This is the only avant I've seen since starting to look a few months ago. There is a saloon up for £13k at the moment (same age) granted a one owner with lower miles.

Thanks for the advice! Fingers crossed I get a call today to say that it's all sorted.

Nice looking car. But I would say that, I have exactly the same car, same colour and engine.
The dealer should repair your faulty door handle, shouldn't be up to you.
As for the remap. Tried to get mine done a few weeks back. It was thought that I had the simos 8.4 ECU. Turned out to be a simos 8.3 and they are very rare and couldn't be unlocked. Revo can remap it for you. But at the moment I can't warrant spending£1000 on remapping a £10000 car.

Brad.

Hi Brad,

The dealer is on the case with the door so fingers crossed it's not a big issue.

I have the CREC engined S4 with the Simon 16 ecu at the moment and have been waiting months and months for a remap to be available. They've now cracked it of course, just as I decide to sell!

Hoping that MRC will be able to come up trumps on the remap. I'd budgeted 12k for a car, so hoping I can bring this up to the standard I want - I.e service, remap, wheel refurb and full machine polish/detail etc within budget.

Sounds like a plan.
Has yours had the Audi software update to the ECU. Mine was using a lot of oil until the Said update. It still uses some, but I'm having the PCB valve replaced next week.

I had the exact same issue with the passenger door and the only way to fix it is to replace the door actuator. Make sure your dealer checks it and fix it as the issue can be intermittent and might look fine when you go an pick it up. the cost of replacing it at the dealer is around £350 including labour.

Mine was done by the dealer who replaced the wrong door first and eventually did the right one for free. So now I have new actuators on both the front doors :).

Cheers Prav. Going to do a bit of negotiating as that's exactly what my local specialist said that it would cost too.

Also found out that the insurance is higher on this than a year old S4 worth 3 times more. Crazy!!

Good luck Chief.
Hope they not going to say they replaced it for you but just cheaply fixed it.
Ask for proof and warranty on that job.

Insurance has shot up this year, I heard.
Apparently is due to rising number of withplash claims in past years.

Hope your new car will be worth all the work and running long miles with you without faults

Negotiated some money off and will get the door fixed locally while it goes in for a service/health check and a few Revo bits.

Booked in to get the wheels refurbed in a few weeks and then just need to do a couple of minor touch up bits before I can get it properly detailed/machine polished to get the paint looking good again.

Hoping it's a goodun and worth the effort!! Guess the story will be a lot clearer once the garage give it a proper check. The history seems pretty solid though so fingers crossed.

Hope all goes well. Mr Badger.
Are you close to MRC. ?

Wish I was. I have been in touch with them for a while as have been looking at getting the S4 tweaked too. I'm in Brighton though.

They also don't have any room to fit me in for a few weeks and i really need to get it done before I introduce it to my wife. That way she's none the wiser!!

Hi. Coincidentally I've just bought an Audi A6 Avant 3.0 TFSI S Line 2009, I've got the same problem with the passenger door not opening AND I'm in Brighton :) This is the first Audi I've had - lovely car btw - and I just wondered if you could recommend a good independent garage in or near Brighton to fix the door and do a major service?

Thanks

I hope you enjoy the car! I can highly recommend TC Garage in Copthorne - just up the A23. The other close specialist option is QS Tuning in Hayward’s Heath, but in my experience - they charge a ‘scene tax’ I.e they’re well known tuners and you end up paying more for everything.

I had a lot of work done at TC (including all the Revo work) and they were great. Pay attention to oil consumption - mine had a duff PCV and it’s a supercharger off job to change.

Is yours a saloon or Avant? I’ll keep an eye out! I’m in a white golf r estate now.

I can personally recommend QS Tuning for services and tuning work - certainly for the former I pay less at QS Tuning than I do at the local franchised Audi dealer and the owner of QS (Kim) has been v helpful diagnosing an issue with my S1. They do the services on mine and the wife's A1 diesel.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. My car is an Avant in Aventurin Blue. I have looked at remaps etc but to be honest having driven a Mazda Bongo camper van for the last five years this car feels like a rocket ship without any mods! :) It's a low mileage car - 30,000 miles - and I'm hoping to keep it for a long time.

That’s got to be the best thing I have read this morning. Enjoy the new car. :)
