    First reviews are out.

Seems quality is no better than a Polo and lags behind MINI.

Seems even more over priced now.

There's a launch edition one in the Carlisle Audi showroom and IMHO the plastics are scratchy/naff and the whole general quality of the car has seemed to have dropped. And boy has it grew, there was an A3 Sport behind it and they both looked the same size...

Very much doubt my next car will be an Audi unless there are amazing deals on offer.

MINI, Golf, Polo, Fiesta looking more likely.

Great looking vehicle from the exterior, far superior to the others listed above. Positives and negatives with the interior, main sticking point certainly the price.

Few videos on YouTube seem to point to it being nothing special, decent but not exceptional. Looking more and more like BMW for my next car unless I end up with a used RS3.

I agree, I think the exterior looks great. Interior is alright, not a fan of the touch screens though. Virtual cockpit looks great in it.

The A1 looks a lot more masculine now.. I wouldn't mind driving one haha

The inferior interior plastics seems to be a common thing for this platform ie Seat Ateca plus the Skoda variant not a fan at all especially of the interior, the headlamps are far too large especially the height of them, you can already see how easily this car will be to facelift, again Audi's latest models disappoint, l was in the new A6, A7 recently build quality was superb apart the touchscreens, couldn't feel any haptic feedback through them via my fingers though, design of the new A6/A7 just appears so bland, the only car Audi have made a decent job of lately externally is the New Q3 but higher end Q3s will be beaten by the all new Evoque, I'll say it again all car makers have their ups and downs and Audi are on a downer not that there cars are bad hell no, its just their design language and build quality has lost its way a little and the competition have not ie JLR, Volvo,Mini hence l am well happy to hang on to my current car for far longer than l normally would as l just can't see the all new A3/S3 being more desirable given what we've seen already, and the deletion of the MMI dial just sums up Audi in general

After looking at the review for the A1 I am very surprised that they have used cheap plastics, especially at the front where it is important, considering that the polo has some nicer materials and the huge price of the A1 for the cheapest car in the Audi range, it's all just disappointing really, even though it looks the part. Looks as if they are focusing less on quality and more on tech which is a shame for Audi. This is all without mentioning the price, even for the 1.0.

It's the type of car I'd like to see on the road since it's nice to look at, but not one I'd really want to be in. Especially in comparison to other, even older Audi models.

I just think it is mad the pricing of a basic 1.0. There are SO many other cars in that price bracket £26k+ with half decent spec. Wife had a A1 1.4TFSI few years ago and was a cracking little car, but I think she will be keeping her JCW for sometime

Audi know they can make their cars cheaper, with inferior materials than before, yet Joe Public will still lap them up.

    I'm going BMW next.

I do like my A3 Saloon and i do think the 1.0 TFSI is a decent engine but i still regret not getting the auto 118D or 120D shadow edition 1 series with some added toys.

Audi is very good don't get me wrong as i have had various versions of the A3 but i tend to find my self jumping in my mrs 1 series over the A3 if i nipping out to the shop etc.

I just find it more exciting to drive even though hers is only 116D auto M-sport, it's not even a serious one like an M135 or M140 but like i say i just find it more exciting to drive, plus the seats are more snug and you feel like you are sat in them and not on them as opposed to the Audi.

Audi are very good at what they do but they are that good i find it boring some times.

Have to agree with this. The new a6/7 design is poor. The fake exhaust cut out is worse than the ones in the previous model. It’s not even a hole just indentation in the plastic. If this is what the new Audi’s are gonna be like then I think my next will be something else.
I do like the MMI knob as well but I think it’s just getting used to not having it. I’ve had a golf for a few days as a courtesy car while mine is getting fixed and the touchscreen works really well with things like CarPlay. I actually prefer CarPlay with touchscreen to the MMI knob. All manufacturers are moving to touchscreen or iPad style screens slapped on the dash now so won’t be long till they all have it.
I do like the interiors of the new Volvos. Xc40/60 is what I’m looking at next to replace the mrs car. Had a test drive in and the engines aren’t the best out there but plenty of poke and quiet enough cruising. The finish especially on the higher end models are on par and maybe even better than the German trio. Think Volvo need an s4/5 style car and I think I will be all over it come the next time.

Very true, some seriously cheap lease deals on new A6/A7, unheard of this early in new life life historically.

Select Car leasing have A6 40TDI saloon for £285, and that is £42k car.

I think the problem is they are too expensive to start with. Most of them are over the £40k premium tax apart from the base sport.
I know most wont pay the retail price but equally people like me is trying to avoid an extra £350 a year for road tax so if you get the base sport with an option or 2 you end up paying an extra £1050 in road tax over 3 years. I specced up something similar to my old 272 with similar options and it came out almost £8k more even with discount.
They just aren’t getting them out the door. New a6/7 has been out for quite a few months now and I haven’t seen many on the roads so not surprised the lease/pcp deals are quite good now.

Audi have slowly been dropping the quality and engineering side for a while now to be honest.. same across the board for VAG cars it seems... read reviews for the T-Roc with its completely solid rock hard plastic interior no soft touch in site. Carwow review was not impressed with the wobbly fitting of the headlight switch on the new A7.

The current 8V although better looking inside than the old 8P evidence of cost cutting exists - little things generally untouched like the door hinges, floor hinges accelerator pedal even the bonnet release were all made cheaper for the 8V in design and action..

As said, maybe VAG know people won’t notice...

What's Audi's plan? Price it ridiculously high so dealers can offer 20% discount to make buyers think they are getting a bargain?

For me, the only thing that sells Audi is that they are known to offer the best interior.

They are also known to not offer the best driver experience. A1 looks to be worse against NINI, Seat, Fiesta @ perhaps even Polo.

So, if interior is no better or worse, driver experience is worse and price is way over the top, why would you consider Audi?

If the new A3 is the same against Focus and Golf it also looks like a poor car to buy.

Went and had a look in the showroom earlier, looks a very smart car indeed. Complete overhaul to the usual Audi interiors.

Looking at getting rid of my Mini One 5 door (67 plate). Going to the dealership next Friday to have a drive of one and discuss figures.

I would like to try the new Polo too, but the wife isn’t too keen on them.

Anyone managed to get a decent discount on the new A1 yet?

See if you can get quotes from brokers such as carbuyer, orange wheels etc and try and get dealer to match them.

@LittleP14 we ordered an S-line a week or so back, with a few additional goodies(but not the over priced Tech pack) with an approx 8% discount. This was at at main dealer who price matched the on-line brokers.
We went for the A1 as it was ok to insure for our 17 yo who has his test in Jan. in fact it was the only car with a premium under £2k pa without a black box. The Polo was more expensive for an occasional new driver!
The only downside; we are now a full Audi house. The other being 2018 SQ5. Chalk and cheese, albeit fairly rapid chalk or cheese ;)

I would chose the fiesta over the A1, we have a 2017 titaniumx, mk8, the refinement is very good and the interior is no worse than the new a1 in terms of quality. It is also such a fun car to drive...

We considered the Corsa but down to insurance again....
Our A1 is built and on its way to the UK - via Emden which brings back bad memories - but we're not looking to take delivery until early March. The lad passed yesterday (2nd try mind) but he'll have to wait to get out on the open road until then - he refuses to drive the bright blue V40! Kids these days!

Looking at the configurator yesterday which allowed me to select and price the 1.5 (35tfsi) in manual or S-tronic, and the 2.0 (40tfsi) S-tronic only. I asked Audi UK if there were any plans to offer the 40tfsi with manual in the future and was advised "At this moment in time we are not able to confirm that there will be a 40tfsi engine at all in the Audi A1" So much for the configurator!

As you were! After receiving the above response from Audi I emailed them to suggest that, if that was the case, they might care to correct the configurator. Have now received a further email to confirm that the configurator is correct after all, 40tfsi only available in S-Line Competition trim and S-tronic box only.

Picked up the car yesterday and quite impressed. Wifey drove it home; it definitely seemed quite nippy and she was beaming when we got in. Went out with lad driving - first time he’s driven since passing and I was a very nervous passenger with only 55 miles on the clock!! We survived! Just.
Will report back after a proper spin but B&O certainly delivers;)

@Daz4311 We didn't go for the Tech Pack - a rip off for in-built nav and a bigger screen (and virtual cockpit I guess) so we're planning on using phone apps - Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze.

The wife took another look a the new A1 today, she said (and I quote) "god the plastics feel cheap, they really seem to have gone down hill". She also said the same regarding the new Q3, who am I to argue. I suppose they have to get some of the billions in fines/costs back somehow.
