New 2013 kenwood unit A3 sline

Hello All

I have just installed this unit Kenwood DNX5230DAB
chose this unit over RNSE mainly due to cost and in the near future may be looking at an A4
Main features:
DAB Radio ( aftermarket radios can suffer with bad reception)
Navigation ( Garmin, its pretty good but still prefer Tom Tom )
DVD ( would be rude no to )
Partial detachable facia ( for obvious resons )
micro SD card reader
USB connectivity ( pen drive / phone / I pod )
Bluetooth ( Audio and hands free )

I am really happy with how it looks but I feel like the sound quality it's my as good through the speakers,
I think this may be how it is set up can anyone offer any advice on this ???

I have since change the boot screen to day this on start up
( red illumination for buttons )

standard install with bury iPhone 4S kit

A piller out and glovebox

Facia plate and new leads in

USB connection ( unfortunately I did have to drill a hole but it can't be seen with the glovebox open without a touch )

DAB antenna

All done !

Nav antenna on dash pretty happy with how it looks inc steering wheel controls

Looks like you have non Bose judging from what I can see on the quadlock connector, so quality will depend on what harness you've used to link up the rear/sub amp. The fronts run directly off the HU, but the rears are driven by the rear amp. If the harness uses RCA's from the Kenwood then this is a much cleaner integration into the rear amp. If it runs off the rear speaker output then it will sound shyte.
You should really rewire the rears directly to the HU, as at the moment you will have 2 x 50w to the fronts but still 2 x 20w to the rears. I would also disconnect the centre dash speaker as it's tuned to the frequency of a baby crying and with even more power going to it will make everything sound really harsh. You can listen with a heavy blanket covering it to hear the difference. Also upgrade the front components for a dramatic increase in quality - JL Audio TR650csi's a re really decent for sensible money plus MDF fitting adapters and some Dynamat

Yes it's non Bose ( has the standard sub )
there are 6 rcas on the on the radio:

2x front
2 x rear
2x sub

The loom has speaker wires for the fronts I think and the rears are via RCA ( or vice versa )
as far as I am aware two of the rcas don't work they are connected by the loom.

I have sent most of the sound to the rear as the fronts overpower the rear.
what would happen if I used the Bose loom ? ( think this may be amplified all round )

As said you would get a much better result rewiring the rears directly to the HU and then connect the RCA adapter to the sub pre-out, and whack the sub level up to max. You will then have full Kenwood power feeding the rears and just the sub running off the Audi amp.

sound complicated lol it sounds quite loud above 20vol, but up untill that point sounds a but flat
I would be happy with the sound being the same as the standard oem system. I am not an audio file but can apricate good sound.

Would doing this mess up my control on the unit ? I really don't want to start chopping up wires as I am not that confident with wireing
Will my kenwood unit be sending more power to the sub than my standard consert 2 unit ?

What Andy says is spot on! Trust him as he is the man for car audio.
its a bit of work but well worth it wiring it up directly to the hu. Will improve sq massively

The Kenwood will be sending a higher output to the subwoofer amp, but power is dictated by the amp not the HU.
The stock speakers will struggle with the higher power HU, which is why they sound OK at lower volumes, remember they are built for the 2 x 20w of the stock HU, not the 2 x 50w from the Kenwood. For £100 you will get a much better result with a pair of JL Audio TR650csi's and some MDF adapters. otherwise you are never going to get the most out of that HU.
