Neither remote will unlock car; both will lock it

2006 A3 8p Sport.
No unlocking with either remote. Key only will unlock all doors.
Since I experience the same malfunction with either remote, it suggests the fault is on the car side. Where is the receiver?

Its in the rear screen which connects to the convenience module, possibly just needs reprogramming.

Put new batteries in. That’s what they do when the batteries get low.

You need to re-learn the keys. the procedure is in owners manual, or with VCDS. I had same issues with my one. After re-done the procedure with VCDS, the keys are working fine.
