Need some help

EXHAUST GAS SENSOR NUMBER 4
Hi guys I tuck my car to Audi yesterday for a ecu update and the tech in audi tells me that exhaust gas sensor number 4 need to be replaced. But he would not tell me where it is part number or anymore info. I would like to know firstly dose sensor number 4 have any to do with the nox gases but any chance if anyone knows please let me know thank you. My next question is where is exhaust gas sensor 4 located on the car and where I can buy
My next question is
Has anyone had there car just stop. When driving the engine cuts out. I have to push the clutch down and push the key in and restart very dangerous I must say it has happened 4 times over the last few weeks. Audi tech never heard of it any input would be very welcome.

Pretty sure if you contact Audi parts, quote the engine code, then they can identify correct part.

Word of warning though, getting access is a pain unless you have ramps, plus if things go pear shaped you may need to drop DPF. Bank 1 sensor 4 is likely to be last exhaust sensor furthest from turbo. Read this. Unfortunately, we do not have a facility in place where we offer technical assistance through Audi Ireland. We can only advise that you book your vehicle in with an Audi Approved Service Centre for an extensive examination of your vehicle. If your vehicle is cutting out without warning, we would advise having this inspection is carried out as soon as possible.


We also cannot supply part numbers to customer. It is our recommendation that all maintenance is carried out through an Audi Approved Service Centre.

Welcome to the forum Gavin.

First off, by-pass the customer service desk at Audi and talk to someone in person who won't quote the company line, especially by email. The service reception team are a bit like archers in Game of Thrones, highly organised and efficient, but can fire a salvo of arrows when instructed.

What you want are the parts team, you know the defenders of the wall at Castle Black. They know Audi inside out, have a slightly rebellious streak, aren't on commission and are genuinely helpful once you get to know them.

My thoughts are just get it fixed. You've probably paid for the car to be scanned already, so you're put of pocket before you start. Audi have 2-year warranty on parts, so temperature sensors which are a pain to access and remove can be replaced, fault code cleared and you go on your merry way.

Anyway, just my tuppence worth.

To be honest, contacting any car marque's official importer on simple service/technical issues is never going to work. Look at it this way, if they gave you wrong advice based on what you told them, you would be after them with a stick if replacing that did not clear your fault 100%. It is just the way of the world, either you work out what you need by learning things, or you hand the car into an Audi dealer, VW Group independent specialist or local garage and get them to do the work for you. Now, if you had taken that information and asked the parts department to source you a B1 S4 for your car, you could have tried to change it, but as Spartacus 68 says, if you don't know where it is located you really have some learning to do first.

I'm with you guys
I am a skoda octave 1.9 tdi guy I had 6 over the years years. None with the dpf so it's a new adventure for me all this dpf and gas sensor and yes I will learn as I go by asking the right and the wrong question. And forums like this are invaluable to guys like me who like to do there own work on their car so I welcome all input

Hi. EGT sensor numbers increase as you move from the engine. So sensor 1 is the first sensor in the exhaust path which is pre turbo , sensor two is the next and so on. I am not sure if they are counting the Lambda sensor as an EGT because that would be 2 then the pre DPF sensor would be 3 and lastly post DPF sensor 4.
To complicate matters on a V engine you have banks 1 and 2 but as yours is just a 4 cylinder everything is on bank 1.

Have you ever considered buying the Haynes workshop manual for that car? I bought it to use with my S4 knowing full well that it is based around the 2.0TDI engine, but most other bits are common(ish), for me it was better than a poke in the eye!

Would you believe I was on ebay having a look for one lol work shop manual are very handy but you can't beat local knowledge as I like to call it.

Better off getting a copy of ELSA WIN from flea bay. It's essentially the manual the dealers use. I got the full package Audi,VW,Skoda and Seat. It's like having a Haynes manual for every car from these manufacturers from mid 90's to around 2014. Takes up 25Gb on the hard drive.
Had a quick look and EGT 4 looks a little fiddly to get at. You need to remove the exhaust front downpipe to get access by the looks of it.
These are from Elsa Win.
The wiring diagrams for a modern car are next to useless in a Haynes manual as they are so complicated with so many options. You could fill a whole Haynes manual with wiring diagrams for a B8. On Elsa Win the wiring diagrams are very good.

I had a look ELSA WIN I will be getting a copy of that for def
I found the genuine part new for 55 bucks from Poland Audi wanted 165 bucks. Just have to get it up in the air and get it put in when it comes.
