Well, would you believe it.
I was sold a car as being Panther Black with the Dynamic Pack and it now turns out, having checked it over, that it is Mythos Black, which I didn't want, and it only has the Mag Ride. The dealer must have assumed it had the sports exhaust...

This is a major problem in itself of course which hopefully can be sorted out between us. What a f*** up.
I thougth the black looked a bit normal but the salesman confirmed face to face it was Panther.

It therefore looks like I will be looking for a sports exhaust to put on the back.
The question is which one, as I have the opportunity here to NOT go for the Audi sports exhaust. Is there a better solution?

Again, my main criteria, is that the car is relatively 'normal' in comfort mode for the missus but all hell breaks loose for me in Dynamic. This probably means I am only looking at a cat back system as surely a downpipe solution would make it too loud in any mode.

Cheers.

I'd be making the dealer order the OEM sports exhaust and fitting it FOC.

If it has mag ride then it will have the sports exhaust. They came as a package in the U.K. You couldn't have them separate.

You could spec mag ride separately, but if you had the dynamic pack it had exhaust+magride. There was no option for exhaust only.

How have you made your assessment of Panther vs Mythos? Who has confirmed it to be wrong, you or the dealer?

Did you buy from an Audi main dealer? The paint code will be on the standard spec sheet for the car. How would you have not noticed if the car had standard or sports exhaust? Standard exhaust would have chrome exhaust tips, sports would have black, you would also have noticed the noise on test drive surely?

If it's an Audi main dealer they get the spec sheet from the car straight off the system. This sounds very unusual to me.

RS3's have chrome tips on both exhausts unlike all other RS's that get black tips on sports.

Strange one, was unaware of that. Thanks for the info.

Looks to have been sorted with the new 400ps cars though looking at the configurator, both Saloon and Sportback are showing black exhaust tips when sports exhaust is selected.

FL now has black tips for sports exhaust. Previous definitely didn't.

That's a shame it doesn't have the sports exhaust. Personally, as you've been sold the car as having sports exhaust and the Panther crystal paint, I'd be handing it back. There's plenty more out there.

That is likely the best scenario for both of us and coming to arrangement on the paint.
Otherwise, I will have to return it and ownership has changed so I don't know the ramifications for them as it sticks another owner on it.

As mentioned, there are mag ride only cars. Anyway, they sold it as having as Dynamic Pack so I am owed a sports exhaust.

The Ad said Panther Black. They confirmed this on the orginal phone call and again confirmed it, in front of my missus, when asked, right in front of the car. I was not convinced as it looked pretty 'normal' and I was told it had a special affect with purple flecks. I HAD to believe him though - what do I know!

Was not an Audio main dealer but a performance car specialist dealer. Other than this, their service was fine.

No way a lay person would know if it has a sports exhaust add-on or not. It is loud anyway and one has to trust the dealer who sells it.
It was only driving back home that I felt it wasn't as 'mad' as people were saying. I looked at a post on here and looked under the car and there is no extra little pipe on the passenger side between the two main pipes, suggesting a non-sports exhaust.

I have since had a full print out from Audi of the car at 'birth'. It says Mythos Black and Magnetic Dampers and says standard exhaust.

This might have to happen. They won't fancy putting a sports exhaust on it and coming to arrangement on the paint - which I assume was £xxx amount extra over the Mythos?

Cheers all.

Mythos is a £550 option
Panther is a £775 option

Did you buy from a main dealer? I find it hard to believe how they managed to screw it up if so. All they do is print the spec sheet straight from their database which has all the car details including factory fitted spec and options.

It's there tough **** on it all they fix or return it. But as said how did you not notice it wasn't panther they are so different

On a dull day I wouldn't say there's a huge difference.
Anyway, hand the car back. I'll find you a better one!

Yea sports exhaust is widely regarded as the best solution over after market ones

No, specialist. They deal with RS3s a lot so god kows how they mucked this one up.
I am trying to keep the car so will have to live with the Mythos, with compensation.

That and the ommission of the sports exhaust should really have been spotted before sale, of course.

Thanks - will ask them to source an OEM sports exhaust then. I don't mind if it is used, of course, as it would have been if it had come with the car...

How would anyone know - who only sees the one car in front of them and the salesman, right there with me by the car, confirmed for the third time it was Panther Black. He supposedly knows them a lot better than me so for to have called '********' would have been a major feat :)

It didn't appear to have larger purple/blue flecks in it, as mentioned on this forum, when I looked at it closely but, along with his belief it was Panther Black, and given the poor light conditions I had to believe it.

The dealer is responding well and i hope to agree an amicable solution.

An OEM Sports Exhaust will cost a fortune. And I'm told it's not as easy as just bolting it on. Can I ask why you're not keen to just hand it back and start again? It's a lot of money, you want it to be right.

Ah, meant to say, if anyone knows of an OEM RS3 sports exhaust for sale, please let me know and I will pass it on to the dealer to sort out.

Many thanks.

It's 1500 from Audi and it is a simple bolt on straight swap my mate might have one I'll ask

Well, I don't fancy the faff of 'selling' it back and buying another one.
plus, it took me 3 weeks to find this spec as missus really wanted the Lunar Grey Supersports seats and 90% are black which makes it VERY hard to find the rest of the spec match.

I might be able to live with the Mythos black and if teh sports exhaust is fitted then I will be content-ish.
Took the car out for a ride tonight.. no problems with the fueling so it might have been me fussing around with the modes on my trip back home from the dealer and ******* the car off :)

He sold it on his car only has the standard exhaust sorry.

You wouldnt be selling it back tho, it would be straight rejection within 30 days and all money back?

Exactly, I'd be giving it back. There's a few good spec available now.

I will have a look around.

By the way, if I do get a sports exhaust retro fitted does it make sense to get the Milltek Secondary De Cat? Its only a couple of hundred quid.
Does it make the whole car louder in ALL modes or, again, is it only in Dynamic Mode that it makes itself known?
Cheers.

All modes will be louder. But honestly I don't think you'll need it. The sports exhaust is pretty obnoxious already in dynamic mode!

There's no comparison with mythos and panther, just hope you don't meet a panther car

I'm liking the Panther appreciation! I was slightly nervous when I got mine just in case it was too different. But it's spot on.

Mods - how do I get my Panther banner?! Oh, and an RS3 one!

Hard to tell on RS3 if it has sports exhaust or not. Look under rear of car and left hand side will have a small "pipe" vs non sports that doesn't have it. No black tips as previously mentioned. Both sound awesome of course with the sport just a bit louder, nastier etc.

Edit - if it has sports then it will also have mag ride in UK as it came like that as dynamic pack.

Stuggling to find an OEM sports exhaust but my local Audi dealer are on the case and communicating with Germany.
It is not something that a dealer would actually stock.

No they don't stock anything now a days really apart from standard service items. It's order from Germany only

Just hand the car back!!!

I didn't want to but I might have to. I will need to weigh up if having some compensation will be enough. Over time I am sure I can find the exhaust. I need to hear the Milltek in the flesh too.
As I have mentioned, the rest of the spec is rare and spot on (well, apart from they sold it with the wrong paint on it - ha)

If anybody can spot one..

Must Haves:
40K budget (will look at 15 plate to get the spec)
Panther Black or Sepang Blue
The light leather Super Sports seats
NOT black wheels
Tech Pack
Comfort Pack
Dynamic Pack

Would also be nice:
Pan Roof
Not silver wheels either - prefer the ones I have - kinda grey
Privacy glass

My current car hits it all apart from being the wrong black and missing the sports exhaust in the Dynamic Pack.

Update:
The dealer, since the original mistake, has been great and have agreed a satisfactory compensation figure.
I can live with the black - just leaves me to find a Sports Exhaust and get it fitted!

H E L P !

Why not fit Scorpion or Miltek? They have the turbo down pipe and either decat or 200 cell sport cat mid-section options. Leave OEM back box in place. It'll still sound epic.

Looking at Milltek now...

However, looking at the resonated cat-back system as, correct me if I am wrong, this is all I need to replicate the OEM sports exhaust.

What I don't want is the car to be much, or any, louder in Comfort mode but I want the noise of the sports exhaust in Dynamic.

basically, I don't want the missus moaning about it.... she will only ever drive it in Comfort.... :)

Hard to say without seeing the internal design of a Miltek Vs. OEM sports exhaust cat back. I would have thought however, that the cat back Miltek is just going to get you a nicer exhaust note and obvs not much in performance gains.

I had a resonated Miltek turbo back system on my old s3 8p and it wasn't loud really. Louder than OEM system but not Asbo loud. Get the Miltek, I don't think you'll be disappointed at all.
