My S3 project

Well today I thought I would fit the Milltek system up to the cat. Got the old system off no problem and started to get the Milltek ready to put on then remembered the centre section had been modified to allow the decat to fit . I couldn’t be bothered putting the old system back on so have left it off for the moment.

May put the old system back on tomorrow and do the dog bone bushes.

The cars not gonna be used until it goes for the downpipe to be fitted. My local VAG specialist has done me a great deal to fit it so decided to take him up on it and save me the ball ache of trying.

Does anyone know what fixings I need to bolt the pipe werx downpipe to the decat pipe? Also do I need a gasket for this too?

Also tackled the fuel filter as this desperately needed changing. Took me around an hour of persuading one of the clips to come off. Judging by the old filter it’s no wonder the clip didnt want to come off......can’t of been changed for a very long time....

Had to take the car around the block as the battery had died. Was very embarrassing with the exhaust missing haha.

You just need a 3" gasket to bolt downpipe to the decat pipe

Cant share the link for some reason! Put this item number into ebay & it'll pull them up. Ebay item number 183022655769.
I'd double check the length you need by measuring both the flange faces on the downpipe & decat, also you'll need some m10 sprung washers & obviously m10 nuts so make sure you've enough thread for those as well, should be able to get them through that seller or pick up at a local fixings shop to you

Got all my exhaust bolts and gaskets yesterday. I ordered both M8 & M10 bolts just to be safe. M10’s are fine and the ones to go for as the bolt holes on the decat are too large for the M8’s.

Today I refitted the OEM cat back exhaust ready for the car going in to have the downpipe fitted on Tuesday as I just couldn’t leave it off with the racket it was making without it haha.

While I was underneath the car I removed the rear towing eye as it’s looking a little worse for wear. I’m going to try and refurbish it.

I also ordered some genuine Audi wheel bags off eBay yesterday which arrived this morning. They’ll keep the OZ’s nice an clean in the garage over the winter.

They were only £12 and are around £28-30 from Audi.

May also have sorted some Brembos with discs and pads etc. Will update once I have them.

It was off one seller but he only had one set. He must work for Audi or TPS or something as he has a lot of brand new S3 items.

His name on eBay is twostrokeyamaha if you want to contact him on there.

What size you after there’s some up to 18” for £14 upto 20” are around £30

To give you reference mine are the large ones and the OZ’s are 19’s with 225/35/19 tyres on.

I think he’s on here looking at the items listed @S3JACKSON is it you?

Plenty on the bay at 30 quid

12 quid seems a better punt

Got the S3 back after having the downpipe and Milltek system fitted.

Definitely feels a lot more responsive and sounds a lot better than standard, however it’s nowhere near as loud as I expected which isn’t a bad thing at all.

Next up is the dog bone mount on Saturday if the weathers decent, then hopefully I’ll have some Brembo 4 pots next week at some point. If that deal falls through I will use the money on the cambelt etc instead.

Picked the newly refurbished Superlegs up earlier.

Very happy with the finish and can’t complain for £170 including rebalancing the wheels. Just need to pick some new centre caps but not sure which colour...

Really like these centre caps but they may mean a colour scheme change on calipers etc...

Today I managed to fit the powerflex dog bone bush and adjust the mikalor clamp that connects the centre section to the decat as this was catching on the path before my drive.

As the weather was so bad I managed to get access to the pit at work which made things much easier.

Have to say there’s no vibrations in the car from fitting the yellow bush which a lot of people claim. Car definitely feels a bit better with it as the OEM bush was the original and well past its best.

Next up will be cambelt and brembos. Then I think the MAF and N75 could do with being changed as they popped up on a scan while the downpipe was being done.

Had the yellow one too and the small one is the purple one, great combination of enough stiffness and no vibrations at all!

Had a day off work today due to the wife being in hospital. So why she was going under the knife I thought I would clean 2 of the 3 cars.....the S3 and the wife’s Ibiza...the A4 can wait until next time.

Always good to see it clean but it does really highlight the area’s that need attention.

It seems I’ve been messed about regarding the brembos I had agreed to buy so it’s cambelt and water pump next. The brembos can wait.

I don’t but can get one tomorrow for you.

I’m still surprised how quiet the system is especially inside the car. Sounds nice when giving it some but can hardly tell it has a system on otherwise. I expected it to be very droney but it’s not at all.

Very happy with it.

Not much to update lately. The S3 has been declared SORN until the weather improves.

I’m gonna try and get the wings, door blades and arch liners off to sort any rust out if there is any and to give everything a deep clean underneath.

Also need to adjust the Milltek as it’s sitting slightly off centre in the cutout and is annoying me haha.

Once this has been sorted it will be cambelt, service and a few little other things before going back on the road. May also do the oil pick up whilst it’s off the road.

Been a while since I touched the S3 but have been wanting to start on the restoration and general tidying up. Made a small start today, although it was spur of the moment as I had originally gone into the garage to cut the grass.....

Tried getting the door blades off but the screws behind the two rubber grommets felt like they were going round off very easily so left the front ones and took the rears off to see what lurked behind.

To my surprise it was relatively good. Gave it a clean behind and refitted.

Need to do the other side tomorrow.

I also took the JR filter off and gave it a good clean. Just waiting for it to dry.

Also may polish the headlights tomorrow and remove the bumper and front wings to get ready for paint.

The wings seem to be a common problem on these, I've noticed a small bit coming up on my n/s/f & along the top of the drivers door where it meets the window. Seen wings & doors advertised but they've all got some kind of damage to them......I'll have to purchase some & have them sorted out professionally

Yeah they’re very common to rust but, kind of expected at almost 17 year old unfortunately. I’ll be having mine done professionally too. I missed out on a mint drivers side wing the other week.

Gonna make a start on the headlights shortly.

Today I restored/polished the headlights on the S3.

Gave them a clean and quick clay before starting on the sanding.

I started off with 800 grit wet n dry.

I then worked my way up to 2500 grit, using 1200, 1500 & 2000 in between.

Next up I polished them using my Porter Cable 7424, Chemical Guys hex-logic yellow pad, Sonax final finish polish and a final pass with a spot finishing pad again with Sonax final finish.

First pass

I did 4-5 passes per light before finishing with some Fusso wax until I get some 2k lacquer.

Quite pleased with the outcome.

Hi mate, it will be fine sound wise as they’re not very loud at all even with downpipe and decat.
I’ll grab a video for you either tomorrow night or Saturday.

Well today I decided to put the S3 back on the road as I felt sorry for it just sitting on the drive. I know I’ve wasted half a months tax but nevermind.....

Battery was completely dead so jumped her off my A4 and went to put some fuel in. I thought the 15 minutes between there an home would have been enough to keep the battery okay for restarting but nope haha.......the wife rescued me from the Shell garage and I proceeded with a 30-40 minute drive only for the battery to still be flat upon starting the next time.......

Third jump of the day and another trip to the petrol station and another long drive to home.

I think the battery is done even though it’s not too old by the looks.

I had hoped to use the S3 for a week to blow the cobwebs away but looks like it’s gonna have to wait until I get a new battery.

On a plus side she drove really well!!

Well I never thought I’d be doing this but I’m putting the S3 up for sale. As much as I love it, I just don’t have the time to give it the attention it needs.

I will do a classified ad shortly.
