My car goes in to the garage in the middle of October to have a rebuild done with the parts above. I have new piston rings in the post that i got from the parts request section. The head will be getting sent of to a head specialist for all new valve guides and new valves lapped in and checking the seat of the valves and i think he said the cylinders deglazed. I will also have two new engine mounts im just replacing the bush in the dog bone mount to a yellow pollybush for when i get my downpipe. There will also be new drive belt and oil filter.
What would be the best spark plugs to get?
Also what is the best running in oil i should be getting for the first few hundred miles. After i run it in do i just drain it once and then put in my normal running oil or do i need different oil again.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Those rods look tasty! They look very good quality mate.

What turbo set up are you planning? Hybrid?

Thanks Samhendry. They werent that dear either.Im planning on getting the k04 hybrid package Badger 5 is doing. Ill need to sort my exhaust to a 3" downpipe and sports cat and then 3" all to the back.
Can anyone suggest what running in oil i should use and also what coolant is best and brake fuild.

It already has a dw65v in at the min about 3-4 months ago. I will be changing to bosch 550cc injectors but cant do that until im getting it mapoed at the end. Other wise it will overfuel cause the injectors are not mapped in. Thanks superkarl ill get that and then that another thing sorted. Suppose i should pick up a couple more oil filters they wont go to waste.

what oil should i use from when i change it at 20? The same mineral oil or do i start putting better in until the fully synthetic at 500?

The same mineral oil.
Then at 500 change to Fuchs titan, millers nano, or gulf competition. Imo

Details and pics of parts looking fab mate..currently buying parts bit by bit when all is done it's gonna be dropped off to some reputable tuner/builder im based in manchester but am willing to travel no probs..
If you don't mind how much were the rods rifle drilled too I might ģet some they look daddy enuf..thanks

I got my 20mm rods rifle drilled obviously from tsr-performance. They where only £399.99 and delivery was fast and i live in Northern Ireland so they got here quicker than i thought. It took me a while going round garages asking them questions till i found one that i trust to do it. Lucky there only bout 12 miles away. Doesn't take long when ur sourcing ur own parts for the bill to add up. But i think thats part of the fun of doing a project like this. All the best on ur build. Hope you out a thread up here about it also you will get loads of questions answered here if you get stuck. There good on here.

So my garage let me down and cant do the work till December or January. So i decided to go ahead and buy my 3" downpipe and sports cat from pipe wrex. It came with a gasket on the cat end. Should i use this or go to audi and get original ones for all of connections to manifold and from cat back. I have also ordered exhaust wrap so keep heat down. Does anyone have any tips on wraping the down pipe and do i need to do the sports cat?

Looks like a nice bit of kit mate. What cat back are you going to use?

I think audi gasket are better than the ones supplied with aftermarket downpipes although you won't get an oe gasket for between cat and downpipe.

Thanks Samhendry.Thats probably why they sent the gasket for the cat end. Ill give audi a ring and get the other ones.
Im thinking of either longlife or power flow 3" back.

Good luck with the build. Them rods look very nice, good price too.

Hi there! Could you please send me a list of the parts on the 1st picture (with links to buy if its possible)?

Thanks

The valves and crank bearings where got from badger 5. The rods and calico coated big end shells and the cat cam springs where bought from tsr performance. The water pump and oil pump and timing belt kit from ecp. The cylinder head gasket set was from gsf.

Hi Hydro, if your planning to use a high end hybrid than I would recommend ditching the sports cat. I had one of these and a hybrid and you could see how restrictive it was from the colour change in the exhaust. These flow like crap, much better once it was cut out, I've got it made into a swap out flange now...

Thanks for that info. I plan with using the hybrid k04 badger 5 sells. I will have to think of way thats easy to change them over from a decat-cat and viscera for mot time.

Decat what I used on my s3

I struggle to believe people will spend a lot of time researching setups, forking out lots of money on turbos, tuning & the supporting items. Then they go and stick a massive restriction in the system, namely a cat.

De-cat all the way.

Spend some time and do some research to seek out a friendly MOT tester, who takes beer and/or biscuit tokens.

How restrictive is a cat? when I bypassed cat on my stock at the time s3 or might have been stage 1 I didn't notice any real difference, no difference at all really, only a bit of extra noise,

It's not really restricting anything at stage 1, so wouldn't really expect you to see any difference. As soon as you up the pressure it starts to be an issue..

With regards to the comments about research, there's cats and cats. This particular one is poxy..sadly sometimes the inference of a supplier suggests that it's' sports cat would have you believe that this could be incorporated to reduce annual buggering about for MOT's. Clearly not the case..

My MOT tool if ever needed, made by Badger5 I remember noticing a big difference in performance when going from a 200 cpi sports cat to a de-cat

I live in in Northern Ireland where we have to take are cars to government centers to be tested so no research needed as over here not just any one who is a mechanic and has a garage can mot are cars. I will however be looking into going decat when i get the hybrid on as thats when ill notice it more and just change it over at mot time. That option that tuffty has said sounds a good way to do it.

Thats a bit of a bummer. De-cat with V bands is your best option I would say then.

So got car back today about lunch time. System sounds good with it all 3" now and also notice better performance. Only downside is that its a bit to noisy inside for me so i might have to go back and get a middle box put on.

Took car to garage to get it measured for the middle box. He was busy so i left car with him to look at and told him I'd call back. I got car back but driving down the road i felt something at my feet. I found this on the floor. I have googled the part number and have found that it a steering angle sensor- air bag ring. My question is why would they have been near that when car on needed to go up on ramp for the exhaust and i have no warning lights on and everything feels fine.
So what could they have done?

They would have to remove steering wheel to take that off as it what the horn/airbag plugs in to

Maybe it's from other car and they forgot ot in yours.
