What are they like for clearance under the xxr wheels
I will find out on Friday and there’s about 10mm clearance between the edge of the 4 pots and the inside of the spokes so hopefully they should be fine

I noticed something unusual whilst changing the fuel lines. Once the clamps were undone on the braided hoses they were quite loose and very easy to pull off, not a very tight fit like they should be. Quite worrying really and I’m not at all surprised they leaked. These were bought from ebay so quality is always questionable but they seemed fine when I fitted them a couple of years ago. Maybe I received a bad batch or something but needless to say I won’t be using them again and would recommend anyone who’s fitted the same to check them asap

New rubber hoses fitted:

I have the Same DA 31 set up, which fuel filter did you use? Ibiza 1.8T Cupra ? I have a trackslag charge pipe and found due to the angle they sit at my fuel filter was rubbing on the timing casing. This scared me as the last thing I want is a piece to break off and run in the belt!
So I relocated my fuel filter just behind the drivers headlight inbetween the light and screenwash bottle. Seems fine there.

It’s a Mann WK512 from Ibiza Cupra Mk3 iirc, it’s tight down there which is why I wrapped it with some rubber to prevent any damage

I managed to get my brakes fitted today despite the rain it took a lot longer than I expected as most jobs do on these things lol

Just got back from bedding the new pads in, think I’ve still got a bit more bleeding to do. Pedal travel is a bit longer but they are very sharp already so I’m really happy with them

I was surprised at how much bigger they are compared to the 4 pots, the XXR’s (8.75” et20) didn’t have enough clearance and need a 10mm spacer to clear, luckily I had some 20mm spacers in the garage to use for now, they poke a little too much but they’ll do

I ran out of RBF660 so put a call in to my mate @Grundy who came to the rescue with some of his stash, cheers dude

I had a break from work the last couple of days so took advantage of the sunny day yesterday. Gave the car a good clean and went to take some pics nearby

Unfortunately the ground was still very muddy from all the rain the last few days so it came home twice as filthy as it was before

It's looking sweet in those pictures mate.Sat there on the slipway,it looks like a speedboat that's just emerged from the water,if it was mine parked there,it would seem more like a barge

Haha, thanks Tim. I’ve always thought your S3 looks very tidy

Funny you should say that, I’ve always been into boats. I had a speedboat named Awesome which I’d launch from that ramp occasionally. Unfortunately my ski boat days are over and it had to go to fund the 8L lifestyle

At least you had a motor on your boat,my old man was mental (and v.good) on dinghy sailing and press ganged me into being his crew giving me the pleasure, not,of spending most weekends of my childhood tacking back and forth across a river, occasionally dumping us both in it!

Nearly half a century later and I still have the calluses on my hands :grumpy:

I finally got my intercooler and pipework fitted at the weekend which had been laying around the garage for months After removing the Airtec and it’s pipework I made up the main top mounting bracket out of some half cut stainless box section and test fitted it on the front panel

788cee1b5da4f34fef1093ebc69d3c49.jpg

Next I measured and cut up some 90 degree ally bends and expanded the ends to fit nice and tight in the cooler

made sure everything lined up and test fitted the bumper, wow surprisingly all good and the bumper fitted and cleared nicely

d71af4fe9a4b21bc2f16ad032dbd576d.jpg

however, I soon realised having 90 deg bends straight off the end tanks wasn’t going to work for me as the angles were all wrong and I couldn’t connect to the upper hoses without lots of chopping and welding so I ordered in some 45 degree bends which would work much better but meant I had to lose the fog lights which I was really trying to avoid ☹️ After cutting it to size, I marked up the position on each side and got it welded up

Lastly I made up some brackets to support the bottom of the cooler and relocated the horns and ambient temp sensor to the side and fitted the bumper back on.

Still some finishing off to do, next step is to modify the fog grills so they fit back in again, the pipework pushes the lower bracket down slightly on the drivers side so the grill doesn’t click in place at the bottom

(hopefully an easy fix) then I’ll make something to fill the holes for the fog lights, might even take the lenses off and bond them in place to keep it looking original

Very clean car! Do you keep a record of the costs involved with the engine build bud? I’m curious......

Thanks
Definitely not, I’d never leave evidence like that laying around for the missus to find :tonguewink: tbh I’ve no intention of selling the car and would rather spend money on it turning it into a bit of a sleeper than own a new car (with the exception of an RS3/4/6 lol) I try not to think about the cost, I might give myself a heart attack lol but yeah they’re an expensive hobby :)

What size tyres are you using on the xxr wheels? I have some 9x19 et20 compomotive mo6’s id like to try on my s3 but worried they will rub.

They’re 225/40/18 atm but I’ll be swapping for 235’s next but it’ll be close to rubbing on the front because I have 10mm spacers to clear the callipers giving a total offset et10. I would think yours will be close with that size wheel but I’ve never fitted 19/9” so couldn’t advise you too well I’m afraid

Haha I know what you mean, I’ve spent a fair amount on the car in the 3 years of having it and not really got much to show for it.... after reading Tufftys build thread, Karl’s and a few others back a couple years ago I wanted to throw around £4-5k at it and build a solid hybrid or BT. But I’m saving to buy a house, like you I won’t sell the car! Buy the house and then spend the money doing the engine up for me I think.

Engineering at it’s finest here, haha

3aecfafc9a6d7d762e0619b7d2d82ec8.jpg

lower grills modified and back in place. Just needed a bit of grinding in places and the lower clip extending with some plastic padding resin. I ended up making some plastic inserts to fill the holes and then wrapped them in carbon effect vinyl to match the top grill and bonded them in place. Might plasti dip the pipes now so they can’t be seen through the grills???

Last week I did a very impractical little modification on the rear purely out of curiosity, OEM - 2 points but looks much neater

Seeing your fog lenses and grills makes me want to put mine back on and make fit! Looks great.

Vibratechnics mounts are a great buy, can't remember if I used Oem or new bolts unfortunately it was a couple years ago.

Keep up the good work
