PCD on bells has the same meaning essentially as PCD on wheels... Pitch Circle Diameter....mounting holes for the bell/rotor...

Ah right. So our wheels are 5x100, what is the 7.5 or 8 inch you're talking about?

the PCD of the holes that join the discs to the Bell.

The bells we currently use have a 5x100 pcd for hub fitment, and a 12x 8'' pcd for disc fitment :)

Ahh thanks for the explanation Prawn. So a two piece disc, the bell and disc are separate pieces bolted together. A one piece disc is when the bell and hub is one solid bit of metal?

What benefit would you have going to a 7.5" bell? More disc surface for cooling?

    Yes

Pad depth arguably dictates this... rear pads are 41mm deep... a 302mm rotor with 8" PCD bell will give enough surface area for this and be lighter overall... the 7.5" PCD will give a bigger pad depth (50mm ish) but would result in a heavier rotor...

Both options have merits so will look into it further... I know Bill has drawings that will cover both but unsure of offset at this time so will pick this up at a later date when there is a bit of time to

I'm also very interested in this as I expect my rear discs are due for replacement due to wear and now rust where the cars rotting away lol

Had been looking at various 2 piece options and either came up with ECS's S4 rear re-pcd'd iirc which is what Paul's kit was based on or custom via hi-spec or someone simular

Wouldn't bother with ecs, looked into them and get ready when it comes down to new rotors, its either send the bells back to ecs for them to fit you new rotors or buy a whole new kit from a uk supplier. Total joke and this was from ecs themselves last year, i looked into buying a used kit which needed rotors.

Few issues manifested over the week... f*cking potholes are doing my head in, roads are an absolute joke... ironically my car tax renewals came through yesterday for both cars... typical... good job the A2 is only 30 quid a year lol... will do the direct debit monthly thing on the S3... still works out cheaper than the usual 6 month renewal I typically do...

As a result of said potholes my iPod stopped working with the RNS-E and the nearside headlight beam hit the deck... thankfully my iPod is ok but after removing the glove box to see what had happened and turns out the cable had popped out of the connects2 box from the jolt... the cable doesn't appear to have a latch to hold it in which is a real design flaw so I used the next best thing to gaffer tape... hot glue :)

...was a little more tricky to stuff into its 'space' but its in and hopefully there to stay for now lol
    [IMG]

On to the lights.... removed the bumper and removed the head light... couldn't see what the issue was tbh... thought the adjusters were damaged much like the issue Prawn had with his but no, they appeared ok and the light moved about when they were turned... so looks like I had undressed the bay for nowt
    [IMG]

...plan B was to replace the electric adjuster motor with a modded version of the fixed pivot the lights came with but I thought its worth doing a reset in VCDS to check if the motors actually worked... ironocally the only motor that seemed to work was the nearside but... as it turns out the reset was all that was needed... the light picked itself up and while poiting a little high due to my faffing it was back in the room!!.. tweaked the height and bingo... all back to the right height... turned the lights off and on again and both lights auto adjusted... result!.. phew! :D

Whilst under the bonnet I noticed the offside strut was poking up a little more than the nearside...

    Nearside...

    Offside...

Seems the spherical bearing has worn :(

I have emailed Silver Project for the specs and I will try and source a high quality replacement as soon as I can...

Last thing I did was wash the front wheels... I did cheat a little and remove them first but seems the effort putting the poor boys sealant on paid off as the dust and crud fell off with a little help from some very diluted megs wheel brightener... will keep this up for now and get some G5 next :)

It will be a nice anniversary pressie for the car, been about a year since she got back on the road with the stroker/GT35 combo...

I was never really bothered about cams until I hit yet another brick wall power wise... was genuinely excited seeing them today though... sad but true lol

They are Bill's spec cams... same spec as he uses in the Badgerwagon... I don't really profess to understand the specs in context tbh but std cams do appear to be a restriction now at around 480hp... all the cars I have seen do 500hp or more have had cams (or run on hugely optimistic dynos of course) so will see what happens..

The boost control maps will need tweaking as dropping them in will drop boost for the same duty (fixed duty control on mine)...

Good luck for getting it all dialled in and running.

As always,it's great seeing what you've got lined up next for the car,and I'm sure this will be a big step.

We tried a set of cams on mine, but the TFSi is a very different kettle of fish, and the valve timing proved to be an enormous issue,so they had to go back.
Funny bit of that now is with the new ECU,valve timing wouldn't have been a problem, but that's maybe for another time now.

Looking forwards to seeing the results of all your hard work.

Removed the front struts today to replace the spherical bearings in the camber plates...

    Pressed them out...

Old bearing is a different design with oil grooves and seals... was pretty worn...

    Pressed in the new bearings...

Circlip was a little close on one of the fittings so will take this up with Silver Project
    [IMG]

I also refitted the OE bearings... had a chat with Prawn about this when I first fitted them and he said he used the OE bearings to prevent the springs from winding up... this manifests as a twanging noise when you turn the steering wheel...

Refitted the struts back on the car and checked the alignment... can say the steering feels smoother and a little lighter to turn...

    One job less to do...

In other news... cams were paid for today so will be fitting them as soon as I can find a bit of time

Yeah, I'm looking forward to it... I think the spring in my wastegate has settled a bit now... there doesn't appear to be as much boost as I had when initially mapped but thats to be expected... bit of map tweaking will sort that out especially as boost will drop again once the cams go in..

It will be a year on Wednesday since she got back on the road after the rebuild... other than the gearchange incident (which of course was my fault) she has not missed a beat... the cams will be a nice little treat... for both of us lol
