    Dear folks,

Over the weekend I finally brought my first Audi.

    A4 1.8 t sport (Y reg, 2001).

I live in Coventry and wanted to now if any one in the forum knows any good independent garages in Coventry/Nuneaton or close by or any good audi technicians who do a bit of work on the side during weekends to carry out a service/cam belt change.

The car has 81,000 miles clocked up and i am sure it will need a cambelt change.

    Thanks in advance.

Cambelt should have been changed by now already !! Audi suggest 4/5 years or 70k.
I would get the belt and water pump done ASAP !
I'm sure there is some guys on here from that sort of area who can suggest someone.

Audi used a plastic impeller water pump in the early B6 which doesn't last forever. The water pump is driven by the cambelt, so the same amount of labour is required for the cambelt change as for the water-pump change. It's only a few quid for the water pump, but it'll cost you 4 hours labour to replace it when it does fail, so it makes sense to replace it while the car is stripped-down for the cambelt. It's a front-end of the car off job, so you might as well replace everything at the same time.

Check the paperwork to make sure the belt hasnt allready been done mate. I realy should have had it done by now.

Is it a FWD or quattro mate?

I too have only recently bought my first Audi.

When i bought the car the garage said the belt did not need replacing until 115k!?! (1.8t engine 190bhp). But as my other cars have always had them done about 60k so i decided to get it done for peace of mind.

I paid £415 for the cambelt & a major service including all filters etc @ a local specialist. i think you can get the pump & belt replaced for around £320 but go to a garage who knows what they are doing.

    Good luck
