My Belated build thread

On a different note, I’ve looked into my P0011 code over advanced timing. Block 093 is showing the cam stuck at -13 where this should be close to 0.

I’m still yet to pull my N205 valve out of the head and give it a clean. This is my first point of call. Driven the car for another 100 miles no chain rattling, car pulls hard still through the gears, idles fine as well.

I’m hoping it’s just the N205 gunked up or needs replacing instead of the whole tensioner.

Does anyone know what the part number is for the N205? I’ve looked on parts diagram and can’t seem to find it :/

Did you sort this? My block 093 is showing -13 too, I've no fault codes yet though, can't really find much online.

How is it coming along mate?

Engines currently being built mate, had to get another cylinder head as mine wasn’t to the standard we wanted which set us back another week. Engine should be together in a weeks time and car inside can’t wait!

What was wrong with it? Do you still have that donor car?

Donor car is all gone mate, that went around October last year. Pretty much sold everything off it now.

The cylinder head had a very minor crack in it between an inlet valve and water jacket, you almost can’t see it , big thanks to @<tuffty/> for spotting that one. Big thanks to @badger5 for getting a replacement large port head so quickly!

One of my many rocker covers have come back from the powdercoaters, very pleased with the outcome the colour is exactly what I was looking for….. see what you guys think. It’s a toss up between this one an another that’s currently getting powdercoated. What ever I don’t decide to use I will be selling.

The amount of flake in this picked up in the sunlight is phenomenal!

Just need to drill out the holes as they’ve put a very thick coat of lacquer on it and I’ll probably clean the faces of where it bolts down to the head as well.

Hahahaha yeah something like that mate! It’s actually called “Candy Red” believe it or not but it’s a one coat paint plus your lacquer of course. My powdercoaters have loads of different colours with the same one coat system. Filled in any imperfections easily

Nah that will look pukka with a badger 5 sticker on it, knowing you it will be cleaner than my dinner plate, what colour block ? Even though you won’t really see it lol

The block is gloss black with a metallic flake in it, very subtle though. The obligatory Badger5 sticker will be on it for sure haha I’ve already polished it since I picked it up today so it’s very clean. Just need to work on the engine bay before the engine goes in, that’ll be my next task.

An example of how reactive this paint is to light….

283794a94d9ff6a66d1a690a603cc2a3.jpg

It’s got more light directed at it on the left hand side than the right….. very similar to “Soul Red Crystal” that Mazda paints it’s cars.

Little update for everyone, hopefully now with some more progress on my car I’ll be able to put more regular updates up……

One semi assembled stroker engine its all starting to come together now! Few more things to go on and all the ancillaries then we can hoof it into the car, then all the other bells and whistles can commence.

Some updates on the builds progress when B5 were looking at options for my fuel surge tank we decided to remove the rear subframe as it was in a sorry “rusty” state.

2ca5e7b03d8e162afbabcacc91240731.jpg

So this got taken apart by the team and sent off to the powdercoaters, as such it was only right to replace all the bushes. Now I would have preferred to get some nice solid mount bushes from CBAuto, but as they have been increasingly more unreliable in there responses I had no choice but to get powerflex black series all round.

I was going to be changing my rear hub bushes with a poly bush alternative, however Alex from B5 had a set of CBAuto rose-joint bushes he wanted to sell and made sense me having them as they have the freedom of rotation.

The other things that have been going on the car are my AP Racing 6 pot calipers and 330mmx28mm J hook disc I refurbed in the winter.
f215fdb8a85bbf200d43e53d7e71d121.jpg

Alex also sorted out some nice new braided lines as the ones that came with the calipers had been crimped by the previous owner.
49d51c69163c050e7dad79f8336ece6d.jpeg

The CBAuto rear 300mm disc upgrade went on the car as well.

Also I’ve been looking into alternative throttle-bodies than the well known, tried and tested 80mm Hemi. Knowing the price of these and that running water meth does eventually destroy throttle-bodies I found a much much cheaper and potentially “better” throttle-body.

I present to you the 82mm Bosch Motorsport TB.

39c438511207d5bff071a6601a6246ca.jpg

I bought this TB brand new with 2 years warranty for £92.87 delivered.
3ca9e166cf492a3367acd0b3b63d828f.jpg

This is how it compares to the 70mm Bosch TB I had on the inlet manifold originally.
54ec892da7d3a45fe56841a5d52a53f4.jpg

This is how it compares to a 80mm Hemi TB.

Now because the 82mm Bosch Motorsport TB is actually off a Porsche 997 GT3 which is a Naturally Aspirated engine it doesn’t have a boost hose “lip” the way I got around that was an Adaptor I found made specifically to allow you to run it with a boost hose.

77442bd787ad6936c68ebc13e79342bd.jpg

This all cost around £180 which is around the price of a 80mm Hemi TB so the investment is the same however much much cheaper in the long run. Oh and you get an extra 2mm bore size

I also bought a funk motorsport G30-770 specific turbo blanket which fits snuggly on the hotside and look pretty good quality, time will tell how well it holds up and the benefits it has, I bought a 40-45mm wastegate blanket to match as well.

d28d90936586f1cb666c269f6e483a8b.jpg

As you can also see I had my 1.5” Nortech manifold ceramic coated in dark grey

The other updates is I’ve now got my rocker cover version 3.0….. this is my final iteration of rocker cover haha, my others are up for sale on a well known auction site.

3a65321eff68961249433b51602d896c.jpg

You may also see a small hole made in the compressor housing, yes that’s right we are going volute water meth injection on this build

We are pretty at the point of the engine going into the car, 3.5” downpipe being made, 3.5” Zinram exhaust being fitted , 3” boost pipework and upgraded fuel system which includes the custom surge tank, AEM 400 inline fuel pump, AN6 fuel lines, etc, etc

Oh and my CAE shifter has been fitted, more to follow on that soon.

Stay tuned
