Mountain Biking - Anyone on here knowledgeable?

Thinking of getting a new bike, its a toss up between a Trek 6700 disc 2009 or A Specialized Rockhopper Expert 09, anyone in the know give me any info on which way to go?

Voted specialized as imo its better looking and i have a specialized sirrus and its brilliant. Also have friends with older rockhoppers and heard really good things

my knowledge is rubbish tho and wouldnt actually know what is technically the better bike. But then i wouldnt spend that much on a bike.

There are some really good MTB forums about and they will give you a really good detailed answer

dont know much about em mate but ive had a specialized x works for a couple of years now and its been great, never cost me a penny and found all the components on it of top quality and very durable.
im sure there both **** hot mate.

im into bikes had loads in my time, have 5 the now, one a trek but some of the best bikes ive had are specialized, if anyone ever asks me about buyin, i always recommend a specialized, great value for money, take a lot of abuse and nice looking machines. trek , some nice ones out there but its all personal, make sure you get the right size, but through my years has to be the specialized..................

Never owned one, but always been good bikes and a better frame than the Trek.

Thats got all you'll need, decent disc brakes, XT rear mech, tidy frame, so a good choice!

What sort of riding do you want to or normally do?

I got 2 bikes, a Base 24" street bike and Kona Hoss Deluxe xc bike, id like a full suspension as I tend to get left behind on the downhills by my mates who all ride them..

Neither, Buy a Scott. Can get you very good deals on 2009 models.

just to confuse you even more how about this one Kona Hoss 2009 its around the same price but has Marzocchi Dirt Jumper 2 forks that are slightly better than the Rock Shox fitted to the other two

Any marzocchi forks made within the last 3 years are not worth even thinking about, i have seen over 20 sets go back to the importer in 2008 and have sent a few sets back already this year. The quality has gone since they moved factory.

The contender! I must say, my Kona is designed in a mud ridden country, designed to be ridden in one, such as ours! Indestructible frame (so far) ! So, Kona for me!
This is me on Burgage Edge one my Hoss after a freezing cold ride end of last year! Great days!

in my experience you cant normally match a specicalized for money and spec.
I had an endruo SL and i loved it to bits
Mate has an 08 rockhopper and its a very good bike

yep you should also look at Kona and cannondale. Had a Kona shred which was amazing as mattfinn has said absolutly indestructable, but i went on the route of a road bike and never liked the lighter kona bikes so went spesh.

If i were you id look at somewhere like evans cycles as they sometimes do bikes which are a year out of date for quite a bit cheaper. Usually just a different colour than the latest so much better value.

can't say i've heard good things about Cannondale lately, a friend who works in a specialist bike shop has nick named them Snap 'n' Fail!!!

this is my trusty steed, a good ol' square tube Pace RC200, they don't make 'em like this anymore, had it for nine years now and don't think i'll ever change it

cheers mate, i always said to myself that when i could afford one i would get one.
i actually came across this one as a frame only in a shop in swansea called m&p cycles that had been reduced to half price because of a tiny scratch on the top tube! i only went in for a butchers and came out an hour later after spec'ing it £1500 lighter......credit cards, don't you just love 'em!

Rockhopper looks nice, just keep an eye on the spoke heads, specialized bikes tend to come with very cheap brittle spokes. Might be worth upgrading them from the start if your gonna give them some stick. DTSwiss comp spoke are what i tend to build with, dont get any back.

loving that RC200 always wanted one of those with the Pace RC35 forks. Used to be really into it but I was knocked off by a nice lady and suffered a damaged hip which put pay to me riding properly.

Got a couple pics of my hack I'll post up at lunch.

I got the missus a cheap Specialised and have to say I was quite impressed for a sub 500 quid bike. I even managed a few rear wheel hops and one handed wheelies the other weekend. Not bad for 12 years out of practice.

My old Hack

I built it up in '94, not the Hope Ti front hub and snowflake lacing all built with my own hands. XTR shifters etc, XT gears, MAG 21's blah blah. Was a good bit of kit in its day. Not the Exage chainset which was got hurridly after some sticky fingered toerag pinched my Cook Bros cranks.
