MMI navigation thru playlists

I got a 2022 A3 recently with the standard audio system. How it sounds aside, it's awkward to navigate through files and playlists on an external thumb drive. It's fine searching through to find what you want to play but as SOON AS YOU PLAY a song, you can't navigate back step by step. It forces you to go all the way back to the root folder. Such a pain!

Has anyone experienced this? Is there a workaround? Is it possible I have an older firmware?
