MMI keeps resetting - fault

So recently my MMI on my PFL Audi A3 has been resetting intermittently.

Once the car has turned on, the MMI will initialise and start, after approx 1 minute it will shut itself down, before restarting a minute or so later.

This only happens once every 2/3 start ups and I can’t identify what is making it do it sometimes and not others. On the time’s it starts up normally, everything works as it should.

On the times it is resetting, after cycling the reset about 4/5 times it will continue to work as normal.

I’ve checked all the connections on the rear of the unit and have also tried disconnecting the battery for 15 mins as a hard reset but nothing seems to work. I’ve had a search around the forums and can’t find much that matches the code / my symptoms.

Fault code is ‘66052 - infotainment CAN Bus (SAE CAN Bus E)’

Could it be something as simple as a software update to fix?

Possible CAN wiring issue. This is a "performance" related message, ie because there are issues within the network the "service" is degraded.

Is this something that has a relatively simple fix? Or should I just take it to a main Audi workshop?

Hard to tell. Personally I would look to having the vehicle scanned via a specialist in order to get a true idea of what's going on. If you are in or can get to north London I can assist.

I was trying to work out why it was only resetting on start up. After driving for 20 minutes it usually finishes it’s resetting loop and works fine.

I thought potentially it is a battery issue, I’ve checked the voltage and it’s at 11.9 resting and 13.2-13.7 whilst running? This sounds low to me, especially at resting, could this be the reason?

Although I’ve never had an issue with turnover, I jump started my car and it seemed to work instantly and didn’t reset. Going to try again in the morning to make sure this isn’t just a fluke.

could it be a physical issue like a dry joint on the board for the cooling fan etc?

Hi Gilly, did this resolve the issue for you permanently?

I'm currently having the issue, have been for around 6 months and now I have a failed drivers side door lock and airbag, and the MMI resets every time I turn the car on, which makes me think it's battery related.

I've been having the exact same problem with my Audi 2018 A4 - I raised the issue with Audi on multiple occasions. They told me that the car isn't sending back any problem codes when they scan it. The Audi service rep said " Audi is referring us to a technical bulletin... that states that the screen can go blank and restart and/or freeze and then restart afterward and it happens because there is corrupt data in the phone. It basically says that we cannot do anything about it, we are not allowed to replace any of the components and the phone has to be unpair, disconnected, and deleted from the car and then the apps checked and then repaired. " - Service advisor from Audi Dealership in London, Ontario, Canada, today.

I will be unpairing/deleting my phone from the Audi MMI and then factory resetting the MMI. Then I will monitor the vehicle during drives to see if the issue persists. This seems like one of those things where the manufacturer is trying to defer liability onto the owner in order to not have to deal with a technical issue. I could be wrong... will update the forum later.
