Missing air intake cover

Hi everyone I'm after a bit of info on my a3 it's a 2.0 tdi 54 plate I have had the car a few weeks and I have notice The lid off the air intake box is missing I would like to know if this would affect the running of the car or will it make no difference

hopefully this works it's the cover at the bottom of the pic highlighted in green

Well yes it will as thats an enclosed air scoop so if that top part is missing the airflow isnt being directed into the pipe.....obviously due to ram air effect there will be some air going down the pipe but not as much as possible within the enclosed section.
