Managed to break the pins on the MIB unit within the quadlock on the back when trying to install car play retrofit. Is that the end for that unit or can I take the back part off to replace the broken pins? The infotainment won’t power up at all....

just to be clear, pins on the actual MIB / MMI unit or within the connectors that plug in to it?

On the actual unit itself. I’ve taken it a local car audio specialist but he doesn’t seem to think he’s going to be able to save it.... He has another MMI there of the same model and spec..but at £1000 second hand it’s worrying me a bit....

I'm sure I've seen somewhere that you can change those pins have you got a pic. There is a tool

It’s the small pins (the group of 8 or so on the right) that have sheared at the base of them. I thought the ones on the amazon thing you’ve sent are for the actual connector? Or am I just getting confused haha

if it's the pins on the actual unit then that's a bit of a problem. It would require soldering new pins onto the board assuming you can buy the bits needed.

That's a shame mate yep soldering job. You can get a android unit that does everything and it looks oem

I think I still have the small pins somewhere, if I didn’t is there somewhere I could buy them? The guy in the audio shop seemed convinced that it couldn’t be soldered (never done it before so couldn’t really question it)

I can’t find those pins online to purchase though - any idea what they might be called?

@DJAlix - the unit I have is the harman version, would I be able to replace it with a Panasonic unit if it comes to it?

No you need to replace with a Harman unit, and one with the same part number really. Any brand other than a Harman, like a Panasonic, is a lesser unit and will give you issues.

No worries cheers. If I manage to get hold of an identical unit is it just plug and play or will it need any coding?

You will 100% need the unit coding to match the options / spec of your car, and unless you buy a hacked one you will need anti-theft / component protection removing also.

Ah. I see. Sorry for all the questions, but will I have to take the car to an Audi garage for that? I’m up in Glasgow and not sure if there’s anyone up here that does the coding.

Dealership or authorised 3rd party. DHAutomotive can host a remote session for me to do the works remotely. They are in Falkirk.

Some man - cheers! I’ll update on Monday when I hear back from the place that’s looking at it just now - cheers.

Update ; still no luck.

There are a few units on Ebay, but they all have the sim card slot which my unit does not have. Would the unit be ok once coded etc?
