Hi guys i recently bought a 2008 A3 TDI Sportback DSG with the BMN engine and KWM Gearbox. I have owned the car for over 1 month and have notticed a massive jerking/slamming into 1st gear when setting off from a standstill. Also the gear changes when using the paddles lag for just a split second when changing through the gears and there is a loud clunking noise when coming to a stop and it downshifts through the gears. So i took the car to my VW/AUDI specialists (who i trust and have used for the past 3 years for my other VW cars) and he said the entire mechatronics needs to be replaced. I asked him if doing a DSG flush and service would help but he said in his experience its not going to fix the problem. No w what i need to know is if he is correct or if he just wants the extra $$$ for replacing the mechatronics. Also has anyone on here fixed the same problem with just a DSG flush and new filter ?

I really dont want to have to fork out $3500 to fix a stupid electronic component with a few valves. I cannot get over how expensive this part is. My gaming computer has more computing power tham this stupid component and it didnt cost me that much to build. The car just recently ran out of warranty and so AUDI is not going to fix it.

Would anyone know where i can get a replacement mechatronics from as all the wreckers in Australia refuse to sell just the mechatronics and even if they did there is no guarantee that the second hand part also has the same problem.

I would really appreciate anyhelp sourcing a new or refurbished unit as i really cannot afford the price that my mechaninc has quoted me.

Thanks in advance guys :D

Has the guy done a calibration of the gearbox ecu as yet, sometimes this is needed & resets the box to default, see if this helps.

Hi NHN he has recalibrated the gearbox when he did the timing belt service about 3 weeks ago and it hasnt helped. The symptoms still persist but are not as violent as before. the car has done 122,300 km so im guessing its due for a DSG service soon.

Then do dsg service, which also requires a full calibration, see if this helps, if not then mechatronics, but given mileage I would task audi as US extended warranty on mechatronics to 100,000 miles because of this issue, so you could try your luck.

I could ask them but i doubt in Australia they would have the warranty and honor it not to mention that i am the 3rd owner. Also my mechaninc is 100% sure its not going to fix it by doing a DSG service. Anyone know where i can get a new unit from at a decent price ?
