Hi Guys

My audi s3 saloon has currently done under 10k miles. I have called Audi chelmsford for a quote regarding a major service (full service) second one apparently they come back to me with £459.

I was wondering what sort of prices you guys have found and any recommendations for Audi garages in Essex or at least not further than 100 miles from Southend.

Have you had any issues after collecting you car guys after had the service done for example I will defiantly will remind them not to wash my car but any other recommends would be appreciated .

How old is the car and what service regime is it set too?

That might help others give you the benefit of their experience.

£459 is a ridiculous amount of money just for a service.

£156 for oil change, £255 for a major.

That is on the fixed servicing, 10k or 12 months whichever first. My dealer said it is wrong for any dealer to charge more, it's a fixed rate nationwide.

KenL - Its a 15 reg

I maybe should look into getting a fixed plan service could be better deal but they probably wont do the major service first

Which dealer is that mate? Be good to know as mine is about to hit 9k so assume it'll need an oil change soon even though on long life servicing.

I have spoken with audi apparently I am not able to get fixed plan which would be a lot cheaper unless the car is 3 years older.
Hatfield Audi charge £436.94 for a major service. Audi Chelmsford is £10 more.(446.94)

Bridgend Audi, they are good as gold there bud.. I understand a little trek for you, but worth it to save money and just think you don't have to do it very often do you?

I think the oil change on Longlife was £230 and the major was £350 at Bridgend.

That isn't correct, Audi sell a service plan where you have two services which you pay for in one go... that you can't have until you have a car 3 years old. All you want is to change the car from Longlife servicing, onto yearly servicing or every 10k... they can do that.

I'm Cheltenham based so not terribly far. I would never use Cheltenham Audi, the car is from Swindon so will see what price they come up with. I'm on 15k miles a year.

Yeah I thought you were around that area, so it's a couple hours for you but not bad. We have bought a car from Swindon Audi and they were great, but no experience from service due to the distance.

Had terrible issues with Cardiff Audi service in the past, so that's why I use Bridgend and they are great. Very friendly, helpful and when you tell them they really look after the car... make sure they don't wash it, they use brushes!!!! :O

Good luck on the price search.

Believe fixed price servicing is for cars 3 years and older and then it's usually up to and including 2.0L which is fine for 3 year + S3 owners.

There are difference terms for it "Fixed Price" is 3 years or older "Fixed Servicing/Intervals" is for any age and is 10k miles or 12 months.

Ah, got ya. I thought you meant the fixed price servicing. Think I may be on the yearly servicing, not 100% sure.

By standard the cars are on long life unless you ask otherwise. I asked my dealer to change it some months back, but they said they would charge. But when I booked it in at 10k, I told them to change the intervals and do the fixed term servicing and it was done as part of the service.

If it's on long life servicing the DIS will tell you when an oil change is predicted. Mine says oil and inspection after about 19k miles. This suits my car.

That's maybe what Audi say but not all dealers conform.

Despite me explicitly telling me dealer I wanted the car left on long life servicing it was delivered set to fixed servicing. They said they set all cars this way!

I had it changed back and got a compensation gift for the misunderstanding.

Pricing for annual service and long life services are very different. As are the pricing of garages in your area. Its worth calling all the Audi garages up with in a drivable distance and specifically ask.

* what is included for thr service / inspection
* inclusive price
* Any discounts / price matches

Cars can go onto an Annual service if the owner requests it.

You will be surpirsed by the responses and differences

In fact there is nothing stopping you servicing a car on a more regular basis, even if you complete this yourself or with an Indy in between annual / bi annual dealer services.

As a rough idea Audi main vs Audi specialist:

2nd service prices for my S3

Cheshire Oaks Audi: £365
Crewe Audi: £401.19
Liverpool Audi: £439.80
'Unit20' who is an Audi specialist £220 they used genuine Audi parts and did everything that was meant to be done/checked.

And not to worry about warranty:

I just phoned two garages within a few miles of me for a price for its first service. Hamilton Audi £233
Wishaw VW/Audi £133
It's got 4500 miles on it but is now a year old. I think they pull the prices out of fresh air!
